Commercial Description:
Pull on your wool socks and crack open a 2° Below Ale. This tasty winter warmer started life as a small batch beer brewed for the Al Johnson Uphill Downhill – a telemark ski race in Crested Butte, Colorado. The Uphill Downhill celebrates the exploits of Al Johnson, letter carrier extraordinaire, who delivered mail by ski in the late 1800’s. Dry hopping during fermentation creates a floral nose with a hint of pepper and spicy, subtle undertones. 2° Below provides a bright, hoppy palate and a cheery warm afterglow.

I did not like this one. Pours a reddish color with a big poofy tope head. I think its the choice of malt that is offensive to the palate, similar to fat tire but this doesnt work with an ESB. The spices also add more complexity but the result is a mess.

This was a gift from my buddy Matt...Poured with a decent lacy head and light amber color. Nice Malty flavor...overall a good beer.

11-6-07 bottle. Clear amber color with short-lived head. Weak spiced cider aroma. Better than pumpkin beers, but still not fantastic. Okay flavor - just somewhat bland and leaves a medicinal coating on the tongue.

transluscent amber pour with a medium sudsy white head. Smell is metallic and subtle toasty toffee like malt, with a nice bright hop presence as well. Body is surprisingly fuller than expected, and perfectly carbonated. Nice toffee maltiness, faint tartness, then a very light lingering bitter-sweetness in the finish. A pretty nice ESB, and better and hoppier than expected.

Light copper ale with small head. Grapefruit and pine aroma with a little sweetness. Not much for me to dislike in this one; solid pine/floral hop taste with a nice bitter finish. Balanced well with roasted malt that almost evens out the hops. A solid beer from New Belgium.

Clear amber color under an off white head. Sweet malt syrup nose with floral hops. Peppery spice in this beer, with lots of caramel sweetness, light toast, wood, and alcohol that seems stronger than the 6.6% listed. The sweetness seems to fight the spice. Interesting beer.

On tap. Nice orange-tinted brown color, cream-colored white head with thick lacing--covers the whole glass. Aroma of oak, smoke, roasty malt, burned flowery hops. Don’t drink this by a fire. Very smooth taste with caramel, more oak, sweet bourbon, bitter root hop finish, it tastes like I’m drinking a tree. I like it.
