Commercial Description:
Pull on your wool socks and crack open a 2° Below Ale. This tasty winter warmer started life as a small batch beer brewed for the Al Johnson Uphill Downhill – a telemark ski race in Crested Butte, Colorado. The Uphill Downhill celebrates the exploits of Al Johnson, letter carrier extraordinaire, who delivered mail by ski in the late 1800’s. Dry hopping during fermentation creates a floral nose with a hint of pepper and spicy, subtle undertones. 2° Below provides a bright, hoppy palate and a cheery warm afterglow.

A nice, simple beer. First thing you notice is the malt, both in smell and flavor but it tones down nicely as you drink it leaving a good bitter taste. Perhaps a bit more watery than I prefer, but I usually drink thick beers so my scale could be scewed.

Good malty flavor with some nice hoppy background. Great looking caramel color. Great beer to have with some friends at your local pub.

Some malt hiding in the nose behind the brilliant lemon/earthy notes. Malty slightly creamy body, although a bit thin. Tastes like an Imperial Fat Tire.

Sampled with stegosaurus. Pours a amber color with a white head. Aroma of malts, citrus, and some spices. Great malty flavor with caramel and some light hops. Finishes clean and crisp. Decent brew

Bottle sampled on 12/2/06: Pours a clear copper bronze with a thin, wispy-lacing light tan head. Lightly sweet toasty earthy caramel malty aroma has some mild English hop character. Body starts lightly toasty and sweet but thins with a hint of grapefruity hoppiness toward a duller bland finish. Fairly drinkable, but that’s about it.

Bottle. Aroma is excellent. Flavor is burnt toast and caramel. Flavor is a let down after that excellent aroma.
