Commercial Description:
Pull on your wool socks and crack open a 2° Below Ale. This tasty winter warmer started life as a small batch beer brewed for the Al Johnson Uphill Downhill – a telemark ski race in Crested Butte, Colorado. The Uphill Downhill celebrates the exploits of Al Johnson, letter carrier extraordinaire, who delivered mail by ski in the late 1800’s. Dry hopping during fermentation creates a floral nose with a hint of pepper and spicy, subtle undertones. 2° Below provides a bright, hoppy palate and a cheery warm afterglow.

12 oz bottle; Aroma of a storage area of metal vats along with some spice notes on the nose. Gold bodywith white head and some decent lacing. Flavor has some good carbination and and seams like I could write a beer blelch song. Spicey at times bitter at times and malthouse flavor at times. A complex brew to say the least.

Strong and loaded with flavor. Poured very nice and finishes long. A little on the hoppy side which is a trademark of the boys at New Belgium. Overall I’d say this did a nice job with this one.

Wow, nice hoppy Chinooky aroma. The bber’s texture is also nice as the flavor ebbs to something more average of kicked down lighter malts that seem a little south of fresh. Still a wonderful brew without much residual sugar and not so punishing as to keep the drinker from asking for another.

12oz bottle acquired in trade with cbkschubert (thanks!). Poured a medium and clear orange color with an averaged sized head. Aromas of pine (initially I was getting a strong pine which surprised me for an ESB), caramel, citrus, and light spices. On the Hoppy side. Tastes of caramel, spicey, and citrus.

Tried this from the bottle but found I had to pour it into a glass to drink it. It was heavy on the malty side, which although that was the intent, it was a bit much for my taste. Still finished clean and laced the glass well. Over all I am happy with just about everything from New Belgium Brewing Co.

Tap at Ginger Man Houston. Clear amber pour. Malty aroma. Great malty flavor, but balanced, somewhat sweet and earthy, also somewhat creamy. Great.

Didn’t seem like an ESB to me at all. Very malty and smooth. All English hops usually don’t taste any good to me and usually offend my palate, but this was a lot more malt than hops. Nice winter seasonal, a lot different than most I’ve had.

thanks to heemer77 for the 12 oz. bottle. this was a nice surprise. poured a clear amber with a decent off-white head and spotty lace. aroma and flavors were of caramel, dry toast and some slightly spicy hops. nothing special, yet quite enjoyable.
