Commercial Description:
Pull on your wool socks and crack open a 2° Below Ale. This tasty winter warmer started life as a small batch beer brewed for the Al Johnson Uphill Downhill – a telemark ski race in Crested Butte, Colorado. The Uphill Downhill celebrates the exploits of Al Johnson, letter carrier extraordinaire, who delivered mail by ski in the late 1800’s. Dry hopping during fermentation creates a floral nose with a hint of pepper and spicy, subtle undertones. 2° Below provides a bright, hoppy palate and a cheery warm afterglow.

This beer pours a golden amber color with a medium white head leaving lacing down the sides. The smell is very pungent as is the taste... Definately spicy tasting, but not in the traditional sense. There are a good amount of hops in there that makes this thing very crisp and tangy. This is a very unique beer... I like it though! Nice winter brew! Cheers!

From a 12-ounce brown bottle, it pours a bright amber-hued gold with very fine bubbles and a lasting white head. Unique spicey?, hoppy, almost smokey aroma. Medium-bodied with a pronounced malty, slightly caramely flavor, with a delicate hops presence. Nice late alcohol warming. Very clean and drinkable ale.

From a distinctive New Belgium 12 oz. bottle with a blurb and a best before date, 27.Apr.07, on the right side of label. Poured a clear orangey copper with a foamy, fluffy, rocky white head with good retention, slowly settled into a sudsy lacing, minimal amount of laced sticking. Aromas of spicy, leafy hops, roasted nutty grain, a bit fruity and light sweet caramelized malts. Good, steady carbonation and a crisp, creamy smooth light bodied mouthfeel. Pleasant tasting, caramel sugary English malts, buttery, a light fruitiness from the yeast, spicy, dry leafy hops that have a good soft bitterness, towards the end, roasted grains with traits of roasted nuts, and dry leafy, caramelized malty finish. I enjoyed this new seasonal from New Belgium, much better than the Harvest Saison Ale released earlier this fall, easy drinkability, I could drink this all night.

A wonderful beer for the wintertime. The 6.6% alcohol level keeps you nice and warm. Recently brought a 6-pack up snowboarding with me, and it really did the job.

Certainly not what I expected, but I was suprised... I liked it. I was expecting something more like SN’s Celebration ale, and while it was no where near that, it is also no where near any other ale I have had recently.

Fantastic! Poured from bottle. First took a sip from the bottle to get a orange zest taste on the tip of my tongue. Crisp citrus and grass aroma. Through the taste I still am getting grass, though I with this brew I have had my introduction to the juniper taste that is very apparent here. The body isnt too heavy and leaves a clean after taste. Mouthfeel is wonderful, the flavors really travel far on this on going down. I am certain to recommend this, during the winter especailly as it reminds me of beautiful greens themselves. Well done!

Pine/citrus aroma. Clean aroma. Amber color with vigorous off-white head. Starts with strong flavor - sort of cedar/juniper. Don’t know where the pine/citrus went. Medium mouthfeel, thins on swishing. About the middle there is a warm, pepper impression. Never had anything like this. The "pepper" sort of takes the place of hop, though there is detectable bitterness. Ends with a bit of sweetness struggling against everything else. Which may indicate balance. Unique. Good stuff. There’s a bit of lacing as well.
