Commercial Description:
Pull on your wool socks and crack open a 2° Below Ale. This tasty winter warmer started life as a small batch beer brewed for the Al Johnson Uphill Downhill – a telemark ski race in Crested Butte, Colorado. The Uphill Downhill celebrates the exploits of Al Johnson, letter carrier extraordinaire, who delivered mail by ski in the late 1800’s. Dry hopping during fermentation creates a floral nose with a hint of pepper and spicy, subtle undertones. 2° Below provides a bright, hoppy palate and a cheery warm afterglow.

A pleasant surprise from a mostly overrated brewer. Very good for an ESB. Contained some spices that most ESBs omit. Some orange flavors present. Well balanced. Medium bodied and smooth. No alcohol presence and very drinkable.

Amber color, sweet malt and slight hop aroma. Light taste, with a decent amount of hop flavor to it, but with something funky, as if there were parts of a sour ale that just didn’t quite mesh. Disappointing overall.

A decent, if unremarkable ESB. Orange amber color, very mild aroma. Very clean and smooth, a little hoppiness and a nice, wintry taste.

Bottled. Amber with white head. Aroma roasted malts--very sweet, biscuit and syrup. Taste also biscuit-like and lightly burnt. Warming. Finish is long and leaves mouth wet. Taste, however, is somewhat dry.

An orange color beer that is extremely see through so much I could read a book through the glass with a decent head. The aroma is very mild & malty. The taste was shockingly like an animal feed, very grainy taste, with a heavy vitamin taste. I have never tasted animal feed & do not know what it taste like but I remember smelling it on my grandfathers farm & it tastes similar to the smell I recall. This is the first beer beer I’ve had that has a heavy vitamin/animal feed taste. Weird

Bottle. Pours an excited clear golden orange color with a small white head. Nose is spicy peppers and floral hop notes with a crispness. Palate is clean, smooth and dry in the finish. the pepper, spicy and floral hop notes and well balanced and the beer is very crisp and clean.

Unremarkable. Normally I’m fond of New Belgiums beers, but this one did not stand out to me. The aroma Is interesting. The pepper smell is noticable as are some floral hints. The flavor and mouthfeel however are where the beer goes off the tracks for me. The flavor was thinner than I had hoped, and the hops was understated. Though not a bad beer there was nothing that made it stand out to me. I picked up no bright cheery alfterglow.

12 oz bottle from a 12 pack purchased at Mac’s on West Peachtree. Nice fluffy head that sticks around for quite some time. The aroma is not very pungent or nuanced; I get a slight toast and malt aroma. Damn that is depressing. Flavor is the same i.e. slight malt and toast flavor. Not incredibly smooth, but it has an average palate. Hops play virtually no role in the beer. I’m sorry this is a huge let down. Honestly, its seems as though New Belgium didn’t put much thought into this one. Just a very bland and boring ESB.
