Commercial Description:
Pull on your wool socks and crack open a 2° Below Ale. This tasty winter warmer started life as a small batch beer brewed for the Al Johnson Uphill Downhill – a telemark ski race in Crested Butte, Colorado. The Uphill Downhill celebrates the exploits of Al Johnson, letter carrier extraordinaire, who delivered mail by ski in the late 1800’s. Dry hopping during fermentation creates a floral nose with a hint of pepper and spicy, subtle undertones. 2° Below provides a bright, hoppy palate and a cheery warm afterglow.

Bottle from Bruisin’. Pours a light copper with a tall white head. The aroma is really nice and hoppy. Lots of crisp citrus with a biscuity backbone. I’m having a new found respect for some of these New Belgium beers. The malts in the flavor seem really British. This tastes much like an ESB, but really tailored to my tastes. The hops are quite strong and more citrusy than papery. The toffee flavor is totally in check. This is a really nice beer and now that I log on I see that it is indeed an ESB.

Pours clear orange-amber, with a medium beige head, good lacing. Aroma of cooked vegetables, biscuit, and caramel. Medium-light body, zesty and crisp. Has a mild biscuit and caramel flavor, some grassy notes. Some light vegetable presence in the flavor. Well balanced. I thought it would be a good beer for a -13F night, but each of the three times I’ve had one of this batch, it has had vegetable notes.

Decent with some malt crispiness. Some hops, but overall rather pedestrian. Would be nicer if it was a bit fuller. Lot of fizzy and good mouthfeel. Rounded and medium finish. A good beer for a party or just to have around.

Bottle. Poured clear copperish gold, with a big white head, lots of lace. Aroma of citrus hop, toasted malt, earthy hop. Taste is similar with plenty of toasted malt and bitter earthy and citrus hops. Mouth is relatively light, though still satisfying. Overall, a nice brew.

Dry hopped till I lost my floral nose. Packed with pepper and spicy but was not so nice as it overwelmed the hops. Cloudy pour with light carbs I would be one and done with this beer.

Pours a clean translucent gold with a one finger sticky white head. Nose is citrusy and malty, caramel and munich malts, toasted, resinous hop nose. Flavor is a good balance of prominent hop and malt characters, toasted grain, caramel sweetness, very mild bitterness, citrus rind character. Palate is malt prominent with little hop bitterness.

12 oz. amber pour from bottle. Flowery nose. Warm, spicy taste with a dry, light hop finish. Decent, but not great. Still, I would drink this again.
