Commercial Description:
Pull on your wool socks and crack open a 2° Below Ale. This tasty winter warmer started life as a small batch beer brewed for the Al Johnson Uphill Downhill – a telemark ski race in Crested Butte, Colorado. The Uphill Downhill celebrates the exploits of Al Johnson, letter carrier extraordinaire, who delivered mail by ski in the late 1800’s. Dry hopping during fermentation creates a floral nose with a hint of pepper and spicy, subtle undertones. 2° Below provides a bright, hoppy palate and a cheery warm afterglow.

Pours a rich amber color wtih a decent foamy slightly off-white head. Aroma is very hoppy with plenty of caramel malt. The flavor is malt, hops and pine with a bit of spice. A decent beer - tasted like a spin-off winter version of Fat Tire.

Bottle from the brother-in-law. Pours a clear copper with a very small off-white head. Aroma has hints of floral hops with hints of pepper and caramel. Malty flavor is toasted malt, pine, caramel and cream. Very bitter and crisp finish. Well balanced and enjoyable, I would have this again anytime. One of the most peppery brews I’ve had in a while the flavor was very distinct from other highly hopped beers I’ve had before that seem to just run together, good stuff

Pours a clear coppery amber with a fine-bubbled, slightly orangy off-white head. Aroma is malty, fruity and slightly spicy. Lively, mouth-filling flavor is spicy with woody and hoppy undertones. Texture is tingly, fizzy and sassy. Definitely worth at least a try.

Candy and caramel notes in the nose, plus some grassy notes. Pours amber/copper with small head. Caramel flavor balanced by earthy hops -- nice and silky on the palate, just the right amount of carbonation. Still, this beer is fairly one-dimensional, and a bit too straightforwardly sweet for my tastes. I feel like more could be done on the malt side to bring out the potential of the hops.

On tap at the Red Zone bar and grill in Fresno, watching the Chargers. Hearty copper red pint with nice head. Nose is sweet spicy and hops. Taste is same, with plenty of fruity sweetness, caramel, and hops. Had a number of decent beers on tap, and I stuck with this one for a couple.

Guess what, not too bad. Lighter than I thought, but a crisp bitterness makes this quite refreshing. Like a well hopped bitter. Not really what I think of for a winter seasonal, but still good.

Bottle. Caramel malt and bitter grass/vegetable aroma. Clear amber color with small head. Bitter celery and light caramel malt flavor - I can’t get past the celery/vegetable flavor. Not good.

Bottle. Light amber with a small off white head. Dirty sock, green/vegetable aroma. Bitter vegetable/ green flavor. Thin carbonated mouth feel. Did not find enjoyable.
