Commercial Description:
Pull on your wool socks and crack open a 2° Below Ale. This tasty winter warmer started life as a small batch beer brewed for the Al Johnson Uphill Downhill – a telemark ski race in Crested Butte, Colorado. The Uphill Downhill celebrates the exploits of Al Johnson, letter carrier extraordinaire, who delivered mail by ski in the late 1800’s. Dry hopping during fermentation creates a floral nose with a hint of pepper and spicy, subtle undertones. 2° Below provides a bright, hoppy palate and a cheery warm afterglow.

An orange color beer that is extremely see through so much I could read a book through the glass with a decent head. The aroma is very mild & malty. The taste was shockingly like an animal feed, very grainy taste, with a heavy vitamin taste. I have never tasted animal feed & do not know what it taste like but I remember smelling it on my grandfathers farm & it tastes similar to the smell I recall. This is the first beer beer I’ve had that has a heavy vitamin/animal feed taste. Weird

Woah! What a pleasant nose for a winter seasonal beer. Interesting! I’d say this falls more into the IPAcategory, but that could be nitpicking. Reddish color, fizzy, yet delicious.

12oz bottle. Pours deep, clear orange-gold with a medium tan head that leaves heavy lace. Aroma is very bready with subtle raisin/fruit, toffee, and hops. The flavor starts very bready with a nice blend of caramel, toasty malt, light but noticable fragrant hops, and soft esters. Finishes with toffee, spice, and hops - dry and very well balanced. Mouthfeel is medium in body with moderate carbonation and brisk texture. Overall, better than expected - tasty and drinkable.

Piney, fruity hops on the aroma. Toasted malt flavors merge well with a slight hoppy edge on the palate.

Pretty decent brew. I was surprised I had never tried this one. A very good winter brew. Really hits the spot on a cold day. Hoppy, spicy taste with a nice winter brew finish. One of New Belgium’s best.

Clear gold pour, a modest off-white head still leaves an abundant lacing. Aroma is strongly hoppy, comparable to grapefruit zest. Flavor is also hop dominated, but there is little malt character to bear up the grapefruit zest bitterness. Overall comes off as a nice but one dimensional beer. Possibly as a result, seems thin on the palate.

Bottle from Keg Liquor. Poured clear copper color with a large frothy off-white head that mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate toasted sweet malt and floral hop aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable beer.

Pours a rich amber color wtih a decent foamy slightly off-white head. Aroma is very hoppy with plenty of caramel malt. The flavor is malt, hops and pine with a bit of spice. A decent beer - tasted like a spin-off winter version of Fat Tire.

Bottle from the brother-in-law. Pours a clear copper with a very small off-white head. Aroma has hints of floral hops with hints of pepper and caramel. Malty flavor is toasted malt, pine, caramel and cream. Very bitter and crisp finish. Well balanced and enjoyable, I would have this again anytime. One of the most peppery brews I’ve had in a while the flavor was very distinct from other highly hopped beers I’ve had before that seem to just run together, good stuff
