Commercial Description:
Winner of four World Beer Cup medals and eight medals at the Great American Beer Fest, Abbey Belgian Ale is the Mark Spitz of New Belgium’s lineup - but it didn’t start out that way. When Jeff and Kim first sampled the beer at the Lyons Folks Fest, reviews were mixed at best. One of founder Jeff’s first two Belgian style homebrews (along with Fat Tire), Abbey is a Belgian dubbel (or double) brewed with six different malts and an authentic Belgian yeast strain. Abbey is bottle-conditioned, weighs in at 7.0% alcohol by volume, and pairs well with chocolate (or boldly served by itself) for dessert.

from bottle and tap from the brewery also aged in my cellar. Pours a beautiful caramel color with a thick long lasting head. Wonderful blend of alcohol, caramel, malty sweetness and the yeasty esters. Works very well in the cellar and improves until about 6 months old. Gradual degradation usually starts after about 9 months, but is still really good until about a year old. the 6 Month old versions are the best IMO

A clear chestnut brown color with a coarse thin white head. Sweet malt scent of maple syrup and roasted malts and yeast. Medium to full bodied and somewhat high carbonation. Flavor of roasted malts, maybe a tinge of banana, and dark fruits. A unbalanced finish thats kind of vapid.

pour is brown with a red tint, large off-white head, good lacing. smell is slightly sour, some caramel, grape and prune, a little spice in the back. taste is thick, dark fruit (prune, raisin, etc...), some spice, some caramel, nice mouth-feel and aftertaste.

This one came straight from Rollinhard. Poured a deep red almost brown. Low tan head with some thick lacing. Yeast and fruit aromas. Some cherry and plum. Nice malt profile where the fruit comes through again with some big cherry flavors again. Nice drink with a slightly sweet finish.

Pours a deep brown with a smal, but long lasting tan head. Great fruity caramel and spice aroma. Flavor has some great maltiness and fruit, with a slightly bitter hop finish. A great brew from New Belgium.

Thanks to my brother-in-law for getting this in KS. Nice brown pour with a finger thick head. Multiple flavors of light fruits and some spice aroma on the nose. The taste is similar with banana and spice coming through as well as a bit of maltiness.

Deep brown with flashes of red and a small head. Aromas of spicy fruits, bananas and yeast come through pretty strong. Soft malty base with a sugary sweetness and a complex fruit flavor. Quick, clean, roasted finish leaves a good taste behind. Seems to be slightly thin and more fizzy than usual for a dubbel, otherwise really good

tap at the brewery - Pours amber with an average head. It has a mild malt aroma with plenty of yeast. The malt flavor has mild caramel along with light hops and some yeastiness. I got a hint of spice as well. Lively on the palate and medium bodied, this dubbel is mild for the style and easy drinking.
