Commercial Description:
Winner of four World Beer Cup medals and eight medals at the Great American Beer Fest, Abbey Belgian Ale is the Mark Spitz of New Belgium’s lineup - but it didn’t start out that way. When Jeff and Kim first sampled the beer at the Lyons Folks Fest, reviews were mixed at best. One of founder Jeff’s first two Belgian style homebrews (along with Fat Tire), Abbey is a Belgian dubbel (or double) brewed with six different malts and an authentic Belgian yeast strain. Abbey is bottle-conditioned, weighs in at 7.0% alcohol by volume, and pairs well with chocolate (or boldly served by itself) for dessert.

Bottle into pint glass. Nice thick head, off white. Dark color. Aroma is very malty with some chocolate, very pleasant. Taste is sharp as it enters the mouth and susbsides into a taste very similar as the aroma. Nice beer.

a decent brew, muddy brown color. a big cherry licorice flavor with some chocolate malt and some carmel, some yeasty characters and some rosewater. bland fruity and not that amazing. good though for passing the time.

Pours a dark yet clear rusty orange amber with a thick beige head. Aroma of dark fruity malts, banana, yeast and cotton candy. Taste is malty with dark fruit and banana hints and a cotton candy clove finish. Very good.

Bottle. Pours dark copper with some ruby highlights. Mostly diminishing beige head with ok lacing. Nose is sweet and musty: ripe banana, yeasty bread/cereal, and a hint of orange and some spice. Tastes very fruity: orange peel and banana with a caramel backbone. Finish is floral then goes sour with a dry end. Not bad.

Color is somewhere between amber and brown. The nose.....is there a banana in my glass or am I just happy to see.....nevermind. Smells like a big banana dipped in coriander. The flavor is sweet and malty and I can just get a sense of alcohol as it warms. Love this one.

Good looking ale, a clear golden amber with a frothy head. The aroma has sweet malts, soft fruits, yeast, and a touch of nutmeg and clove. All are blended neatly into the flavor. Nice carbonation. The finish is sticky sweet and spicy. Not too shabby.

I just put this one on tap in my kegerator, and I could not be more thrilled! I think this beer is an excellent example of the craftsmenship NBB puts into its beer. It has a great nose of clove and banana with spice. Taste was wounderful, and only got better as the beer warmed up. This is a great beer to unwind with or to pair with a dessert, or a strong cigar.

Most impressive aspect of the beer was the head which was both gorgeous and felt great against the lips. Other than that, a solid dubbel that I found somewhat unremarkable.
