Bottle: The aroma consists of cherry, bubblegum, caramel, and a hint of yeast. It pours hazy orangish-red with a small biege head that quickly fades to a ring. The flavor starts with a big caramel and cherry combination. The finish is a combination of dark fruits, raisin, bubblegum, and mild bitterness. fakepurseninja (787), Washington, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 12, 2007 Hmmm - Drinking New Belgium beer is like a rollercoaster - some are great, some leave you very sunken and dissapointed. With this abbey dubbel I feel like I am listening to Coloradians doing sub-par Kareoke of good trappist ales. This was too sour, overly pear flavored and too thin. Like an Elvis impersonation of a Chimay. Its got the right character but the sideburns just are too uneven. valpoaj (363), Valparaiso, Indiana, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 10, 2007 Muddy mahogany pour with a lasting off-white head. Malty aroma with definite hints of raisins and overall sweet scent. Flavor was good, but not really impressive. The flavor did open nicely as it warmed to near room temperature, and had an odd alcohol laced finish...definitely preferred New Belgium’s Trippel to this brew; something was just off! mrdeath5493 (108), Arkansas, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Feb 8, 2007 Bottle. Relatively clear dark ruby color, aroma of yeast and brown sugar. Taste has a sort of unpleasant sourness, nutty, thin finish. zachh (19), USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 3, 2007 I have tried most of New Belgium’s other stuff, and this definitely is very high up there. It pours like Dr. Pepper and can have a giant head if it is poured too fast. The taste is pretty strong. It has a lot of body to it, but it doesn’t hit like most bodies. It’s a subtle punch in the face, if that makes any sense. The after taste stays for a while and reminds me of 1554.
Drinking this beer with out food isn’t something that I would recommend, but having it with a steak would be amazing. GeneralGao (3071), Iowa City, Iowa, USA

Clear reddish-orange color with a thick lasting off white head that laced the glass. Attractive estery aroma accented by brown sugar and a whiff of yeasty bread dough. Appropriate effervescence. Spicy, brown sugary malt flavor accented by fruity esters and a touch of white wine. Lightly acidic up front and dry toward the end. bigcat03 (191), Lincoln, Nebraska, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 21, 2007 Updated: Feb 28, 2007Bottle from Hy-Vee poured into trappist glass at 52 degrees - Pours beautiful deep red with a 1/2 finger tan head; Malt, raisins, lots of esters, a tint of alcohol to the nose; Lots of dried fruit, malt, yeast, molasses, lightly tart grapes and a little bitterness in the corners of my mouth on the initial taste; Aftertaste is slightly dry and yeasty, but with a nice sweetness; medium body; Lively carbonation; My main complaint with this one was that it didn’t feel full enough. More body would have made this an absolutely great beer. I was reminded of St. Bernadus a little after this one warmed some. Another great beer by NB!
