Commercial Description:
Biere De Mars is New Belgium’s exploration of the classic French and Belgian brews celebrating the half-winter, half-spring month of March. Our bottle-conditioned version, however, goes where no BIERE DE MARS has gone before. After gazing at its cloudy, yet glowing orange hue, prepare yourself for a celestial collaboration of oats, wheat, barley malt and lemon verbena, all of which is set into orbit by unidentified flying yeast strains.

Bomber. Never had a Biere De Mars before, so this should be interesting. A pleasant and bright orange color with a little white head that barely remains on the beer’s surface. Aroma carries a little barnyard funkiness, a little pumpkin pie-like spice, a little bread and honey. Flavor is similar to Avery 15’s blend of spice and funk, though not as powerful, which is pleasant. A mild honey/malt combo sweetness leads into a slightly farmy finish. Once it warms up a bit, the palate is smooth and full. A really easy beer to drink, especially for something with brett, though it’s not exactly an easy one to pay for.

22oz bottle $9 which is kind of expensive but whatever. Really nice looking orange color, wispy head that is really just swirls of white at the surface of the beer. The smell of this beer is straight animalistic like sweat dripping off the bristles of a feral hog’s back, whew its strong. Piggy, manure aromas, heavy brett and reminds me of Avery 15. A little prickly on the tongue but the taste is pretty refined, lemony but not sour, zesty almost. This was a good beer but given the price I won’t be making a second purchase. Bomber (Lips of Faith) - hazy gold pour - nose of spices, belgian-ish phenols, honey, a very mild wild character, crackery malts - herbal bitterness - full but soft carbonation - starts with light phenols, very light funkiness, gingerbread, and moderate herbal character - these complexities are soon washed out by a honey sweetness soon becomes all you can taste from the middle, through the finish - maybe a touch of mango - starts out great, but ends up slightly disappointing.

22 ounce Lips of Faith bottle purchased from the Pole Line Nugget in Davis, CA. Aroma has some musty barnyard yeast notes at first, which is followed by some light sweet aromas. Some spices present as well. Very slightly hazy dark golden/orange body with a medium whitish head. Sweet, doughy start, which becomes well...pretty bland. Light spiciness to finish. Not much bitterness. A little yeas character, but all in all this is a real snoozer. Doesn’t taste like a BdG to me. It has a very thick oily body, too.

Lips of Faith bottle from Malt and Vine. Pours honey gold with a thin head and plenty of rising bubbles. Aroma--Malt is dominant with peppery hops, spice and vinegar. Palate is a bit weak. Interesting taste, however, with plenty of spice, coriander, pepper, lemon, floral, with a mild bitter finish.

Pours clear orange-amber, with a thin white head, little lacing. Smells of coriander, pepper, caramel, ginger and figs. Thin body, velvety and crisp. Flavors of citrus, biscuit, caramel, fennel, with an extremely mild bitter grass aftertaste, and a slight sour edge. Well balanced and easy drinking. Mild, but interesting.
