xnoxhatex (1305), Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA Oct 7, 2009 Bottle thanks to 17thfloor. Almost clear amber with fluffy white head and excelent lacing. Aroma is lemongrass, Brett and light sweetness. Flavor is Brett, grass, lemon, grainy, light alc, slightly sweet, mango, not bad. Light bodied and watery, light carbonation. Okay. SuzyGreenberg (1318), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 30, 2009 22 ox. bottle - the new 2009 release I guess; pours clear, dark gold with spotty white head; stale grain, sour lemons and dried flowers; soft, medium body that drinks with a nice, mild syrupy quality; wild flowers and maybe blueberries; nose is kind of strange, but this wasn’t half bad angrypirate06 (678), Texas, USA Sep 30, 2009 Kips of faith bottle. Clear golden orange pour with a white head. All spice, hint of sour, wheat, somewhat floral, and brett. Flavor is big brett sourness up front. Followed by some herbal and earthy flavor. Also some citrus, lemon zest. Lively carbonation. bblack99 (196), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Sep 27, 2009 Tasted 9/19/09 at the Black Clover Beerfest.
Funky aroma with a bit of sweetness wafting off the hazy golden-orange liquid with a medium foamy head.
Banana, malt, lemon, and light spices highlight the flavor. My first biere de garde, so I’m not really sure what to expect/compare against. randolphjj (89), Raymore, Missouri, USA Sep 26, 2009 Lips of Faith Biere de Mars - bottle. Woooooowwwwww... is there a lot going on in that glass! Gorgeous orange (a true orange color) in the glass without much head. I get a bit of sour on the nose - perhaps some straw. Very very mellow ale - soft on the palate - with complex malt, some spice (but muted) and some nice wild yeast. tennisjoel (931), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA Sep 26, 2009 Sampled at ABR 2009. This is kind of like a muted saison. I’m not an expert on the Biere de Garde style, but I enjoyed this quite a bit. Dry flowers, brett, lemon, and some underlying banana/clove make this an enjoyable New Belgium brew. Pretty decent beer here. durhambeer (1187), Durham, USA Sep 21, 2009 Pours a little closer to dark golden than orange, and not as hazy as expected. Nose of brett and lemony citrus, made more herby, I guess by the lemon verbena. A little soapy. A bit of fruit on the taste. For a bier de garde, I’d like a bit more caramel malt flavor. Light palate. If I said this on the forums on this side, Seems like a homebrewed attempt at Orval. Not terrible, but nothing great. Fratto (670), Arlington, Texas, USA Sep 20, 2009 Gingerman Dallas. Dry almost soapy aftertaste, not a bad beer, but the finish kills it.
