brewshthereen (316), Oregon, USA Jan 29, 2005 Updated: Feb 9, 2005Aroma of citrus, fresh baked bread, and alcohol. Zippy citrus, lemon peel, honey, yeast, and alcohol notes for flavors. Somewhat herbal. They don’t even try to mask the alcohol with this one, which makes this a bit hot (peppery) at the finish. This becomes even more noticable as the beer warms up. Overall, coming from New belgium I just felt a bit disappointed with this offering. Mangino (1027), Mississippi, USA Jan 22, 2005 Pours a hazy deep orange, with a more lighter yellow tone to the outside. Aroma is malty, smells like bread, with some sweet malt notes. Flavor is spicy, lots of floral notes to it, as well as a little lemon and honey and a sweet alocohol finish. Thanks to Larry Pitonka for this one! jigglyjock (159), Seattle, Washington, USA Jan 19, 2005 Poured a cloudy orange color with a slightly orange small head. Aroma of bread dough and spiciness. Had a nice malty, spicey taste with a hint of citrus/orange flavor. csbosox (1076), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Jan 15, 2005 Best before 3/4/05. 52°. 12 oz bottle. NB Worthy glass. Hazty light orange, small off white head, lacing. Aroma was malty and yeasty with citrus notes. Taste was bready, sourish, and wheaty with a sourish, slightly bitter and somewhat citrusy finish. Nice mouthfeel. Good. frylock (998), Buffalo, New York, USA Jan 15, 2005 Hazy golden color with a very small white head. Biscuit malt aroma with some herbal and lemon notes. Doughy malts, light hint of orange and lemon. Mild sweetness towards the finish. Moderate bitterness and some citrus in the finish. biz82 (1328), austin, Texas, USA Jan 14, 2005 Pale opaque amber with a small white head and good carbonation. Yeasty sweet aroma with some herbal, toffee and citrus notes, hops and a bit of wet cardboard. Subtle and smooth with decent body. Spritzy. A little bitterness in the finish. Some strange vegetable flavors with some spiciness. I don’t get much citrus flavor but it comes out in the belch. thegreenrooster (1811), St.louis, Missouri, USA Jan 11, 2005 POur is a very hazy off orange with a frothy white head. Aroma is a bit lemony with notes of vanilla. Flavor is yeasty and caramel with lots of sweetness throughtout. You get a nice dose of wet hops on the end of the swallow. Vey tasty and quite unique. billk (300), Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, USA Jan 11, 2005 Updated: Dec 19, 2005bottle 12 oz. 04mar05. Semi cloudy amber/orange w good off white head that lasted fairly well. Moderate carb, min lace. Aroma is Belgian yeast w lt/md roasted malt & light hops. Flavor is Belgian yeast w a creamy lightly toasted grain/malt sweetness & flavor that is intertwined with a fairly pronounced tart sourness with a bitter nip. Just into med bodied. The sour/bitter almost seems to overpower the grain/malt flavor but it is there and enjoyable. Light hops. Crisp & clean tasting, a bit spicey, slightly clovey & moderately complex. This will be on my enjoy regularly list when I can get it. I think its best at 55 degrees...not 50. Doesn’t possess the funkyness of a true saison in my book but still rather good. 12/19/05 I’m dropping this down .2 to a 3.4. I’m just not as impressed with it this year.
