Commercial Description:
Biere De Mars is New Belgium’s exploration of the classic French and Belgian brews celebrating the half-winter, half-spring month of March. Our bottle-conditioned version, however, goes where no BIERE DE MARS has gone before. After gazing at its cloudy, yet glowing orange hue, prepare yourself for a celestial collaboration of oats, wheat, barley malt and lemon verbena, all of which is set into orbit by unidentified flying yeast strains.

Pours a clean golden color with a good head that recedes slowly. Aromas of spice, pie crust, and cooked apples. Medium nectar with ample effers. Mildly sweet on delivery with a quick mildly tart bittering component. Goof aroma to palate follow through. The finish lingers with what seems to be a touch of sour.

Tap at City Beer Store in San Francisco. I’m pretty sure this was the New Belgium Biere De Mars. The bartender said it was but when the new bartender came on later that evening, he wasn’t certain the tap had been labeled properly. IEither way, whatever I had was good and I’m glad I didn’t take the time to do very detailed rating. Cloudy honey color. Slightly sour nose. Sweet and sour malt flavor. A little bitterness on the end.

Appearance: Pours an orange amber with almost no head. Aroma: Soiled diaper, spices like cinnamon and nutmeg and bread yeast. Taste: Clove, cinnamon, bread crust, mild bitter hops with a small fruity finish. Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, low carbonation. Overall: Interesting, pretty drinkable, has a unique aroma for sure.

This copper ale poured with a fluffy white head and a spice and yeast aroma. The flavor is much more mellow than I expected, yet very flavorful, with a nice malt base, lots of interesting spices and a subtly bitter finish. Surprisingly, not very sour.

22 oz bottle (guise of Lips of Faith-Biere de Mars) poured into tumbler- poured transparent light copper color, no to low carbonation, white ring around the glass for a head. Aroma of yeast, a whole lotta spices (nutmeg, peppercorn, mild pepper flake to name a few...), bananas, darkened fruit- I find it hard to drink this after 5 minutes of smelling it- simply, it smells awesome. Hits the mouth with a low-medium body, malt is there but alot of sweetened fruits smile nicely and introduce themselves to the party, middle holds up just fine as wheat is noticeable in the background, finish lingers for well over a minute. Damn. Really, damn. Even though I’m having this brew young age (6 months, if that), the flavor and aroma are nothing short of awesome. I have to buy the rest of the stock at the store for myself and friends before other people hold them for their own or lb4lb (mini me) trades them!!!

On tap. Pours a clear deep golden with an off-white head. Aroma of yeast and Brett - quite subtle. Medium body, lightly sweet fruit and yeast with distinct Brett and a somewhat astringent and bitter finish. Interesting. 060709
