Commercial Description:
Biere De Mars is New Belgium’s exploration of the classic French and Belgian brews celebrating the half-winter, half-spring month of March. Our bottle-conditioned version, however, goes where no BIERE DE MARS has gone before. After gazing at its cloudy, yet glowing orange hue, prepare yourself for a celestial collaboration of oats, wheat, barley malt and lemon verbena, all of which is set into orbit by unidentified flying yeast strains.

22 oz bottle courtesy of Binnys South Loop and shared with a couple friends. Pours a well carbonated sunshine amber, decent white head that laces pretty well, fairly lively carbonated body. Aromas throw a combo of belgian yeast, a touch of spice, vanilla and honey. Initial is a bit floral, a bit funky but that doesn’t play a huge role. Vanilla, honey, belgian yeasty spice.. Flowers. Light, a touch of cinnamon, clove. Finishes dry, lightly bitter. Underlying sweetness and spice sticks to the palate. A decent effort, just a strange mishmash of styles for me.

Glad this one’s back. Had draft and bottle. Very similar. Pour is cloudy golden color with small white head. Aroma is hay, chamomile, clover, mild spice, wheat-like aromas, and a hint of malt. Flavor is hay, malt, spice, clove, and some earthiness. I remember it differently, but it was still enjoyable.

On tap at Austin Saucer on July 11, 2009. A nearly translucent honey orange-brown color... quite an interesting color. Extremely silky mouthfeel to this one. Aroma is sour, with vanilla and grains and roasted nuts. Light anise flavor. A little syrupy. A great balance of some neat ingredients.

22oz bottle. Kind of a dark gold pour with a nice white head. Sweet, somewhat spicy aroma, a little peppery as well. Not a whole lot of flavor realy, trying to get some discernable flavor, but can’t put my finger on anything, let down.

Orange/yellow pour, smallish white head. Spicy nose, cloves and cinnamon. Mouthfeel is soft, no single flavor dominates, but there is a pronounced spicy forefront partnered with the soft malts. The finish is long and slightly sweet, and more spice. Hops come in well towards the end, and are very subtle.

Nice foam, leaving nice lacing on glass. Beautiful orange body with average carbonation in the bottom of the glass. Slight spicy aroma. Some brews have their spices kick you in the face. This one’s spice is mild, among flavors of mango. (2009 Lips of Faith version)

Pours orange with a thin head. Aroma has a little bit of the sour beer smell, some spices. Flavor is good, spices come through a little bit more and decent malt. Decent beer, I should have picked up the La Folie next to it instead, but I wanted to give this one a try.

Bomber. Never had a Biere De Mars before, so this should be interesting. A pleasant and bright orange color with a little white head that barely remains on the beer’s surface. Aroma carries a little barnyard funkiness, a little pumpkin pie-like spice, a little bread and honey. Flavor is similar to Avery 15’s blend of spice and funk, though not as powerful, which is pleasant. A mild honey/malt combo sweetness leads into a slightly farmy finish. Once it warms up a bit, the palate is smooth and full. A really easy beer to drink, especially for something with brett, though it’s not exactly an easy one to pay for.
