Aroma is a soft spiciness and citric hops. Flavors are bready and spicy. Leans toward a dry finish. The yeast added more depth to this quaffable brew. I landed this beauty on my trip to the Grand Canyon State. PhillyBeer2112 (2089), Orange Park, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Mar 11, 2002 Updated: Dec 31, 2005Hazy bright amber with light quickly fading head. Aroma is citrusy and spicy. Lemon verbena makes for an interesting herbal addition: adds spiciness, fruitiness and some lemony tones (note, there is no lemon in this beer, just the herb). Flavor is mostly dry and what little malt flavor there is is rather clean, nothing Belgiany/Frenchy happening. Light spiciness. Dryness is puckering like a dry red wine. Med bitter finish is a bit much for style. Tingly mouthfeel with light-med body. Moderately complex and subtle but could use more malt up front. Nice but flawed. Some almost over-whelming alcohol presence- not balanced by sufficient malt.
An addendum for the 2005 version, the aroma is full of brett, a big leathery horseblanket pile of cow manure brett! Good stuff. The flavor and palate are still a bit of a letdown though, lacking complexity and body. Indra (2036), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 2, 2001 Very different. Somehow tastes like exactly what it is, an American/Belgian hybrid. Sort of a heavier, less fruity version of a witbier, and according to the bottle is spontaneously fermented. Not bad at all. bitbucket (2036), Kirkland, Washington, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 14, 2006 Bottled. Pours a hazy golden-orange with an enormous lacy pale yellow head. Nose is mostly yeast with orange peel showing through. Medium body, soft fizzy carbonation. Flavor is citrus, bread, spice and caramel. Finish is quick and dry with some bitterness. An interesting beer. DaSilky1 (2029), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 19, 2003 Aroma translates to must, orange, mildewy books, powdered citrus sugar, hay, and a little yeast…appearance was slightly hazy golden yellow and a tad shiny in the light... a solid but thin layer of suds topped things off…uneventful citrus flavor with a yeasty display of slight blood, acidic banana, and hay flavors…it turns spicy near the end...maybe lemon zest, orange juice, coriander, pollen, and white pepper...yeastiness grows as does the orange flavors..but it doesnt combine well in my opinion..kinda astrigent mouthfeel actually...tastes like malt liquor after a while..
