Commercial Description:
Biere De Mars is New Belgium’s exploration of the classic French and Belgian brews celebrating the half-winter, half-spring month of March. Our bottle-conditioned version, however, goes where no BIERE DE MARS has gone before. After gazing at its cloudy, yet glowing orange hue, prepare yourself for a celestial collaboration of oats, wheat, barley malt and lemon verbena, all of which is set into orbit by unidentified flying yeast strains.

A mixed bag... Pours cloudy orange with small to medium off-white head. Lots of sediment. Nose is mildly cloying with a hint of rot, but mostly citrus fruit. The flavor is complicated, blended with fruit, bitter orange peel, lemon, rather sour and somewhat off. This is not always bad (see my rating of the Oud Gueze) but is missing something here. My impression is that the wild yeast strains used in this beer, being new country, are not yet ready for prime time. Nice, complicated mouthfeel.

Out of a bottle. Aroma of citrus, wheat and yeast. Poured a hazy orangeglo to peach color with nice head. Flavor was good, orange tinge on the wheat definite yeast notes. Palate was medium bodied and finished well.

Aroma is dominated by malt with some subtle hints of citrus and baseball card bubblegum. Slightly hazy orange-amber in color, tightly beaded white head. Flavor is kind of like a half-assed wit bier - light malt with some citrus and unusual yeasty notes, but not much else. Light-bodied with considerable carbonation making for an overall soft mouthfeel. Unremarkable.

This is a very nice smooth beer. Looks like Orange Soda but doesn't taste like it. Nice flavor not bitter. Particulates throughout. Its very drinkable. I think these guys are onto something. Something very good.

On tap at Austin Saucer on July 11, 2009. A nearly translucent honey orange-brown color... quite an interesting color. Extremely silky mouthfeel to this one. Aroma is sour, with vanilla and grains and roasted nuts. Light anise flavor. A little syrupy. A great balance of some neat ingredients.

Appearance: Pours an orange amber with almost no head. Aroma: Soiled diaper, spices like cinnamon and nutmeg and bread yeast. Taste: Clove, cinnamon, bread crust, mild bitter hops with a small fruity finish. Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, low carbonation. Overall: Interesting, pretty drinkable, has a unique aroma for sure.

Cloudy copper color with a small white head. Nice mild lemon, honey, grass and spice aroma. Crisp feel with a fairly dry finish.

Red amber pour with off-white head. Aroma of sourness and citrus. Taste is O.K.- little sour and citrus/orange flavor. Nothing really dominant/ jumping out at me. Little dry aftertaste that has a citrus tang to it.
