Commercial Description:
Biere De Mars is New Belgium’s exploration of the classic French and Belgian brews celebrating the half-winter, half-spring month of March. Our bottle-conditioned version, however, goes where no BIERE DE MARS has gone before. After gazing at its cloudy, yet glowing orange hue, prepare yourself for a celestial collaboration of oats, wheat, barley malt and lemon verbena, all of which is set into orbit by unidentified flying yeast strains.

Another winner from New Belgium. A tad spicy, wheaty and very strong fruity aroma and flavors reminiscent of corriander and tangerine, with a nice bits of hops and a malty balanced aftertaste. Makes this a very enjoyable saison.

Tap at Brouwers. Had while hanging out with bvc. He had the Glacier IPA as did after4ever who was there too. He rated it highly This one has tons of fruit on the nose along with lots of brett. I got notes of orange, peach, lemon, dusty brett, some spice. A touch of bread perhaps as well. Pours a nice orange, hazy with a thin head. The flavor is also very fruity. A great deal of orange, lemon, peach. This is followed by some bready spicy sweetness on the mid palate and a does of dusty funk in the finish. Medium carbonaton, silky smooth mouth feel - assuming the oats contribute to this. Drinks very nicely and is pretty flavorful.

Decent head, white over a soft reddish-brown body. Underlying fruitiness, citric, but dry and a slightly astringent finish. Mild aroma, lively palate. Creative and overall excellent. Or, as Per said to me, "funky", because there sometimes just aren't the right words to describe it.

Cloudy, dirty orange, thickish white head. Aroma is funky, musty, and vaguely fruity sweet. Sweetish flavors up front, with some dusty, flinty notes, too. Some woody flavors, too. Kind of an Orval-ish quality.

Bomber from Supermarket Liquors, Cheyenne. Nose kind of lightly vegetal and funky with some light spices mixed in. Clear bright orange with a medium off white head. Flavor is spicy with a tiny bit of bitterness. Tastes much better than it smells.

Bomber (Lips of Faith) - hazy gold pour - nose of spices, belgian-ish phenols, honey, a very mild wild character, crackery malts - herbal bitterness - full but soft carbonation - starts with light phenols, very light funkiness, gingerbread, and moderate herbal character - these complexities are soon washed out by a honey sweetness soon becomes all you can taste from the middle, through the finish - maybe a touch of mango - starts out great, but ends up slightly disappointing.

ReRate 06/08/02: As I have changed my rating system, to reflect more acurately the beers sampled, a re-rate of my top 100 beers is now in progress: The beer pours a cloudy orange color, generous head and lace. Nose is malt, slightly citrus, sweet as is the start, top light, the finish is nicely hopped, dry, acidic and quite ’Quaffable’.

Hazy light apricot color. Mild tartish yeast armoa. Medium heavy bittering. Sourish fruit, some chile pepper vegetable flavors without the heat. Medium light sweetness. Plum and sloe in the tartish medium finish. A doughy, twangy aftertaste. Nic NB yoked bottle. Finish got a little clingy.
