Commercial Description:
Biere De Mars is New Belgium’s exploration of the classic French and Belgian brews celebrating the half-winter, half-spring month of March. Our bottle-conditioned version, however, goes where no BIERE DE MARS has gone before. After gazing at its cloudy, yet glowing orange hue, prepare yourself for a celestial collaboration of oats, wheat, barley malt and lemon verbena, all of which is set into orbit by unidentified flying yeast strains.

Definitely smells like an ale. Toasted malt and hops, with a hint of sweet orange and lemon and stronger coriander. Just a but cloudy, dark straw to light orangey color with very little head. Starts a bit sweet, moves into spicy hoppiness. Vanillaey aftertaste at the verrry end. This is surprisingly clean.

Draft at Map Room. Not exactly what I think of when I hear biere de garde, but still a damn tasty beer. Pours a hazy copper with a dissipating head. Nose is citric and sweet, with yeast jumping in as well. Taste is a bit tart and clean, very tasty with fruits and bread. Nice full mouthfeel. Pretty clean. Damn fine beer, but not sure if its BdG...

Wonderful seasonal that gives a nice representation of its parts- sweet apricot, tangy hops, and a nice roasted malt. A very satisfying brew that I wish was available year round.

When poured from the bottle, this beer presented a golden copper, slightly cloudy liquid covered by an inch of rich, foamy head that lasted nicely throughout and left good lacing. The aromas were malty with spicy notes of coriander and lemon verbena just as advertised on the label. The mouthfeel was light and dry with impressions of spice. The middle was sweet and dry while the finish was slightly bitter and had a nice alcohol warmth.

On tap at the brewery -- talk about fresh and properly-served! Brewed with Pale, Aromatic, C-40 and Carapils malts, all fairly lightly-toasted. Willamette, Cascade and Magnum hops are very much kept in abeyance here, with only 18 IBU. The malts dominate the smell and the taste. Unpasteurized (as all of this breweries ales are!), unfiltered. bottle-conditioned spring ale on its first run of the season . Semi-cloudy, orange-colored pretty looking beer. Notes of orange and lemon in the nose, with wheat and maybe even oats. Taste matches, but lays a bit lower than the smell. Very drinkable and very pleasant. You who live in Colorado need to try this one at the brewery. You who don’t live in Colorado -- well, tough luck!

My first saison, my first New Belgium in my New Belgium worthy glass. Cloudy orange color with a tall white head. Aromas of lemon fruit, and an earthy yeasty smell. Not sure if this is what people call barnyard... Flavor is lightly fruity with lemon and peach, the finish is sorta zesty with some black pepper. Medium body with a dry texture. Thanks to Doppelganger for the bottle.

Golden/orange pour with a good head initially but it diminishes quickly. A nice refreshing flavor profile with a hint of orange peel in a body that’s not too light or dark.

Pours a hazy but bright orange color with a thick creamy two finger head that settles very slowly to rocky cap and leaves a nice webbing of lace behind. Smell; nice citric orange peel, a little bit lemony with a good spiciness. There’s a definite musty brett presence in the aroma. Taste; the mustiness that I picked in the nose comes out more in the flavor. The coriander and lemons, as well as a slightly sourness. There’s a nice malt presence and mildly peppery spiciness in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, and very creamy, and goes down nicely. One of the easiest to drink beers that I’ve had in a while. I tried this beer last year and thought it was decent, but this year it seems to be so much better.
