Commercial Description:
Biere De Mars is New Belgium’s exploration of the classic French and Belgian brews celebrating the half-winter, half-spring month of March. Our bottle-conditioned version, however, goes where no BIERE DE MARS has gone before. After gazing at its cloudy, yet glowing orange hue, prepare yourself for a celestial collaboration of oats, wheat, barley malt and lemon verbena, all of which is set into orbit by unidentified flying yeast strains.

On tap. Pours murky rust orange with a thin, foamy head that quickly recedes. Aroma of orange zest, caramel malts, fruity esters and some slight sour and earthy notes. The flavor has bready malts and fruity esters appear on the front, followed by orange zest, lots of spice, and an earthy finish. This beer is on the lighter side of medium-bodied, with average carbonation and a slightly sour, funky finish. Not bad at all, and pretty drinkable

Tap at Crescent Moon in Omaha, Nebraska. Pour is dark golden orange, mostly clear with a nice one inch tan head. Visible carbonation on the pour. Aroma of soft biscuit malt, joined with sweet banana fruit, some funky honey floral notes, grass and some ginger. The taste resembles the nose, starting with the malt, followed quickly by the sweet fruit and honey floral. The funky and grass are present in the taste as well, though come across a little dirty. Palate is medium, coats the mouth nicely, then the carbonation lifts wells. The dirtiness of the taste actually led to a pleasant mineral mouth feel that ended dry. Nice beer.

On draught during Autumn Brew Review 2009 in Minneapolis, MN. Pours a semi-hazy orange amber colored brew with a thick off-white head that has some nice retention. Aroma of golden grain malt, some yeast, lemon and a hint of barn yard funk. Taste is medium bodied, some light carbonation with flavors of golden grain malt, some yeast, lemon zest and a touch of fruit. Finish is semi-sweet with some candi sugar, and yeast aftertaste.

22oz. bottle. Bright amber oange in color with an average sized head. Aroma is floral, lightly hoppy, a little funk, citrus, and a lot of brett. Taste is of straw, grain, a light tasrtness, citrus, and of course a yeasty brett character. Slightly dry finish.

650 ml bottle from Freddy. This is a lips of faith bottling. Pours a translucent copper color with a medium white head that soon recedes to a 1/8 inch and holds. The aroma is very saison-like with musty fruits, spices and Belgian yeasts. The flavor is complex with funky yeast, cinnamon, clove, hay and mixed fruits. The mouthfeel is full and malty smooth with a bit of an acidic quality. The finish is long and dry with lingering cinnamon spice. Overall: Very nice but not great, to acidic for me..

On tap at Austin Saucer on July 11, 2009. A nearly translucent honey orange-brown color... quite an interesting color. Extremely silky mouthfeel to this one. Aroma is sour, with vanilla and grains and roasted nuts. Light anise flavor. A little syrupy. A great balance of some neat ingredients.
