Commercial Description:
Biere De Mars is New Belgium’s exploration of the classic French and Belgian brews celebrating the half-winter, half-spring month of March. Our bottle-conditioned version, however, goes where no BIERE DE MARS has gone before. After gazing at its cloudy, yet glowing orange hue, prepare yourself for a celestial collaboration of oats, wheat, barley malt and lemon verbena, all of which is set into orbit by unidentified flying yeast strains.

Poured a nice caramel amber with a gerat head and lacing. Fruity citrus aroma. Flavor is light hops and citrus, yeast, fruit. This is a good easy drinking beer that would be great cold in the summer.

On Tap: Pours a very hazy deep golden yellowish orange. Yeast strands throughout. Very minimal to 0 head. It looks a lot like a hefe. The aroma is of bubble gum, clove, spices, glue, pine nuts, citrus yeast and dough. The flavor and the palate are both kind of light and fluffy. Rather sweet with brown sugar, molasses, clove, bread, and various malty tastes.

Tap, New Belgium Brewery. Cloudy orange, good sticky white head. Cloves, lemon peal and marmalade nose. A definite undomesticated quality. Clove, blackberry and papaya flavor, very fruity with a bit of sweetness up front, finishing dry. (Previous rating, 1/10/2005) Bottle, Liquor World in Fayetteville AR. Pours very hazy light orange, with a nice layer of dimpled light orange head. More yeast floating in here than a typical hefeweizen. Aroma is almost all bready yeast, with just a hint of citrus. Some pleasant graininess in the taste, and lots of yeast. Nice light clean palate. Finishes with some fruity/metalic esters. I thought this was a pleasant and very refreshing beer. My only complaint is that the overbearing yeastiness makes it a bit one sided. (5/4/6/4 14)

Best before 3/4/05. 52°. 12 oz bottle. NB Worthy glass. Hazty light orange, small off white head, lacing. Aroma was malty and yeasty with citrus notes. Taste was bready, sourish, and wheaty with a sourish, slightly bitter and somewhat citrusy finish. Nice mouthfeel. Good.

On draught at Sycamore. Light, orange, cloudy, and quite tasty. Some citrus in there and a very drinkable take on the style.

First out of the gate from belgianhomebrew's Secret Santa package - oh, yeah. Yeasty and sweet nose and super rocky head billow forth to greet you. This is a nice melding of sweet and spicy flavors, neither taking firm control of the taste, and the body is nice and supple, not too thick (yet it threatens) - yet, there is no element of danger here as in the great saisons, no hint of herbal madness stalking you and about to pounce when you aren't looking. Solid and well-constructed - I like it. As it warms it is starting to get sweet like the dupont saison series, I think....

Didn’t expect to like this one quite as much as I did... All told, out of the bottle it looks about like a cross between an amber ale and a wheat beer. Nice amber/orange color with a lot of haze. Lemony nose. Body is rather crisp and ends with a slight citrus twist at the end that is refreshing. Definitely worth trying...
