Commercial Description:
Biere De Mars is New Belgium’s exploration of the classic French and Belgian brews celebrating the half-winter, half-spring month of March. Our bottle-conditioned version, however, goes where no BIERE DE MARS has gone before. After gazing at its cloudy, yet glowing orange hue, prepare yourself for a celestial collaboration of oats, wheat, barley malt and lemon verbena, all of which is set into orbit by unidentified flying yeast strains.

On tap, well, from a growler purchased at the brewery. Lovely appearance with nice white bubbles. Great mouthfeel, velvety, but with nice citrus experiences.

A beautiful, unique beer that is the color and hue of a harvest moon in the glass. Substantial and radiant, with a perfect half inch of stubborn white rocky head. No lacing to speak of, though I can’t subtract any points for that. Aromas are floral, yeast, apples and oranges. Tasting yields a full, hoppy and rustic beer with a long bready finish. Malt, hops, and fruity flavors are all held together by the yeast in sublime balance. An excellent beer from an excellent brewer. A brew to behold.

Biere de Mars is a truly amazing beer. It almost glows in the bottle. This is a transcendent saison-style with awesome golden-orange color and great tangy, citrus aromas. Earthy, fruity, citrus-orange and floral notes bubble to the surface with a subtle yeasty background and smooth, crisp, well-balanced character. No overpowering spiciness like some saisons. I’ve picked up this seasonal brew for years now and it never gets old. I look forward to it every year and toward the end of the season I stockpile a six pack or two in my fridge so I can have it even after it’s sold out. This is a must try for any NB fan or any fan of great Belgian-style beers.

Hazy, bright orange color, as in a ripe apricot. Head is initially thick, fluffy, pure white. Aroma is fresh and fruity, citrus large and in charge. Soon, a supreme hoppiness sets in and makes itself quite welcome in the nose and on the palate. Thrilling and tasty bitterness on the mouth, with a deliciously citric (orange, mostly) finish. Very yeasty, and quite well-balanced. Body is medium, hops are out front, but the brew is altoghether a rounded one. This is a very special ale, and when all the parts come together, I’m left wondering...am I drinking some kind of liquefied orange bread? Quite a nice accomplishment from a brewery of well-deserved fame.

Pours cloudy orange. The aroma is almost kriek-like with a sourness to it as well as grass and yeast. Flavor is light with hints of peppery lemon, yeast and wheat. Clean with a dry finish.

The color of a cut open butternut squash, and cloudy. The head rises then drops and floats like a hand-knitted tam. Clingy. Smells of straw bales, and a walk through a veggie garden in July; warm vegetable leaves and tilled soil. Taste of spicy baby greens. There’s citrus, and a reminder of coriander. Apricot. Delicious muskmelon! Floats on a carbonated swell with chewy grain raft.

Thanks to friend Paul B for this sample. Follows more or less the the objective description listed here. Poured with a nice white head and good lace. Color is almost clear medium yellow. Aroma is spicy, malty, honey, herbal; nice. Flavor is about the same. Decent brew. Good finish. Slightly boozy. Drinkable.
