Commercial Description:
Named in honor of our founder Jeff’s bike trip through Belgium, Fat Tire Amber Ale marks a turning point in the young electrical engineer’s home brewing. Belgian beers use a far broader palette of ingredients (fruits, spices, esoteric yeast strains) than German or English styles. Jeff found the Belgian approach freeing. Upon his return, Jeff created Fat Tire and Abbey Belgian Ale, (assuming Abbey would be his big gun). He and his wife, Kim traveled around sampling their homebrews to the public. Fat Tire’s appeal quickly became evident. People liked everything about it. Except the name. Fat Tire won fans is in its sense of balance: toasty, biscuit-like malt flavors coasting in equilibrium with hoppy freshness.

Bottle: dark gold colour. Thick white head. Full taste. I have had better Amber Ales, not sure what all the New Belguim hype is about.

12 fl oz bottle. Pours clear and golden deep orange with a small white head. Light fruity and breadish aroma. Flavour is mild sweet, caramelish and with subdued hops note. Ends smooth malty flavoured with a light bitterness.

Clear, amber color with a small tan head and little lacing. Aroma of caramel and cereal malts. The beer has a light body, creamy texture, average carbonation, and an abrupt, dry finish. The flavor is similar to a small of caramel and roasty flavors. Overall, I was not very impressed with this beer. At least I can reuse the bottle.

Amber pour with a large white head. Light aroma of malts with a hit of hops. Flavor is lighter than i expected however it doesn’t have the corn taste that many other lighter beers have.

Best before 09 Dec 05. Poured a nice, clear amber colour with good carbonation. The head was off-white and on the small side, plus did not stay around for long. Aroma was a bit of malt and maybe some spices and/or fruit. Taste was again a bit of malt and a bit o’ spice and/or fruit but I’ve no clue which or what. Mouthfeel was smooth and clean but was also on the thin side. I was a little disappointed in this beer. Had several on tap sometime later - MUCH better than the bottled version.

This beer is just so... average. I don’t know why it’s so popular. I mean, if you’re gonna get a New Belgium, get the 1554, this one is boring. It’s not amazingly flavorful, it doesn’t get you drunk, it kind of feels like a waste.

Poured a perfect amber color with a medium sized white head that faded slowly. Smells sweet with a hint of hops and yeast. Has medium carbonation and tastes malty and slightly bitter finish.

Beer rating #600. 12 oz. single bottle from Total Wine in Huntersville, NC. Bottle is marked best before 25 Sep 09. This ale poured a nice amber color with a light white head. Aroma is malty and a bit of hops with a yeasty bread like scent. Taste is hops and a light sweet finish. Good beer for summer.
