Commercial Description:
Named in honor of our founder Jeff’s bike trip through Belgium, Fat Tire Amber Ale marks a turning point in the young electrical engineer’s home brewing. Belgian beers use a far broader palette of ingredients (fruits, spices, esoteric yeast strains) than German or English styles. Jeff found the Belgian approach freeing. Upon his return, Jeff created Fat Tire and Abbey Belgian Ale, (assuming Abbey would be his big gun). He and his wife, Kim traveled around sampling their homebrews to the public. Fat Tire’s appeal quickly became evident. People liked everything about it. Except the name. Fat Tire won fans is in its sense of balance: toasty, biscuit-like malt flavors coasting in equilibrium with hoppy freshness.

Bright orange colour with huge white head. Biscuit/malty aroma. Butthat hop was hiding, right at the back. Thin and bland, watery, short mouthfeel. Dissapointing.

12oz bottle served in a Duvel tulip. Pours clear amber with some visible carbonation, a half inch of lasting head rests on top. Smells very crackery, toasty, and biscuit like. Smells malty but not sweet. Tastes very similar with a hint of fruitiness. Medium thin body with a balanced finish. Smooth and very sessionable. Has more flavor than many other beers of this size yet not enough flavor for most beer geeks. Probably a good gateway beer into craft beer.

I generally hate any beer with the word "Belgium" on the label. But this was a "South Carolina commemorative," so I gave it a try in honor of my home state. Not bad at all. Will drink it again.

Taste 6/9 Bottle. Looks: Clear amber body with nice foam. Aroma: Biscuit and bread with some caramel sweetness. Taste: It is much like the aroma: bread and yeast. Nothing off putting, good brew in a simple style. Some light roast and some sticky malt sweetness.

Pour from a 12oz can – part of a 12 pack picked up while passing through Kokomo. Amber ale with off white head – two fingers of head that keeps on coming due to very lively carbonation. Aroma dominated with aromatic hops. Fairly light body and mouthfeel but very nice, complex flavor of malt, hops, and some sour fruits at the start, with very nicely balanced hops smack in the finish. Very tasty and drinkable amber.

Tap. Very nice go-to beer but certainly nothing to get too excited over. Notes of caramel, malt, and biscuit in the aroma and taste. Some kind of fruit as well. Smooth and very drinkable. It helps that it’s relatively inexpensive. Overall, quite good.

Bomber from trade with ucusty. For an amber this one is not bad- biscuity and a bit on the sweet side. Pours clear yellow gold with an off-white head. Nose is caramel, malt, some slight hops and a light fruitiness. Flavor is about the same with some lingering sweetness about the finish. Sessionable, light-medium bodied and pretty good overall.

Had it bottled. Good beer. Caramel, malt taste. Definitely a sweet beer. Would have it again but would like to try it on draft.
