Commercial Description:
Named in honor of our founder Jeff’s bike trip through Belgium, Fat Tire Amber Ale marks a turning point in the young electrical engineer’s home brewing. Belgian beers use a far broader palette of ingredients (fruits, spices, esoteric yeast strains) than German or English styles. Jeff found the Belgian approach freeing. Upon his return, Jeff created Fat Tire and Abbey Belgian Ale, (assuming Abbey would be his big gun). He and his wife, Kim traveled around sampling their homebrews to the public. Fat Tire’s appeal quickly became evident. People liked everything about it. Except the name. Fat Tire won fans is in its sense of balance: toasty, biscuit-like malt flavors coasting in equilibrium with hoppy freshness.

All about the malt really. Low aroma,. a bit thin, and low bitterness, but excellent malt profile - nuts ad digestive biscuits. Just a bit one-dimensional.

Pours clear amber, with a medium beige head, good lacing. Smells of hay, caramel, apple, and a little nutty. Medium-light velvety, smooth body. Mild flavors of tart apple, caramel, with some light citrus and hay notes in the finish. Slightly on the sweet side, but very drinkable.

Aroma is pleasant. Nice and smooth. Toasted malts, light notes of hops, and some earthy undertones. Appearance is what it should be, amber. Off-white head that dissipates for the most part. Small amount of carbonation. Flavor is watered down malts with a bit of hops. Aftertaste is a little bitter and leaves something to be desired. Can’t say I didn’t like the flavor though. Overall, it’s not bad.

Pours a long lasting, foamy white head. Amber color. Nutty, malty aroma with a bit of caramel. Taste is similar - toasted nuts, biscuits, malt, molasses, very light hops. Light mouthfeel. One of my fav’s.

Bottle. Pours a deep amber color, very clear, with a large, frothy white head. Aromas of chocolate, molasses, toasted malts, and a hint of grapefruit. Very clean mouthfeel with a smooth, crisp finish. Flavors of malts mostly with a hint of molasses. This is a great introductory beer to craft brews.

Solid beer, amber in color, thick off white head. Slightly citric aroma. Balanced taste, mostly malty, slight bitter aftertaste. Not the best, but worth it.

Another fine beer from new belgium, I would very much love the opportunity to visit the brewery where I might get to taste more than the 5 flavors available at my local market. In short the finest readily available beer in the northwest. key words being readily available as there are certainly better beers available.

Clear brownish orange color with a frothy off-white head. Aroma is toasty and biscuity with a slight citric tinge and some earthiness. Flavor is bland and watery. Brown malts and matzo, stale fruits, mineral finish. Very thin mouthfeel gets exceedingly tiresome by the end. Not recommended.
