Commercial Description:
Named in honor of our founder Jeff’s bike trip through Belgium, Fat Tire Amber Ale marks a turning point in the young electrical engineer’s home brewing. Belgian beers use a far broader palette of ingredients (fruits, spices, esoteric yeast strains) than German or English styles. Jeff found the Belgian approach freeing. Upon his return, Jeff created Fat Tire and Abbey Belgian Ale, (assuming Abbey would be his big gun). He and his wife, Kim traveled around sampling their homebrews to the public. Fat Tire’s appeal quickly became evident. People liked everything about it. Except the name. Fat Tire won fans is in its sense of balance: toasty, biscuit-like malt flavors coasting in equilibrium with hoppy freshness.

Bottle. Pours an amber color with no head. Aroma is mostly hops, and yeast. Very smooth on the palate. Not a whole lot to this beer.

Draft beer poured a mostly clear amber with a thin white head. Better than domestics but not very special otherwise. Tastes grainy and earthy. Easy drinking very smooth.

A beautiful amber, with caramel tinge of odd malt aroma! biscuit like flavor! Not bitter enough to balance sweeter tones! Doesn’t that IT you look for in a beer.

Poured a very rich amber color with a frothy white head that stuck with the beer most of the time. Slight burnt bread notes with an overall pleasing taste.

Bottle. Not sure what all the fuss is about with this one. It’s OK but something tastes off somehow. Just like the description says it has a definite biscuity taste.

12oz bottle courtesy of mhewes poured into a pint glass. Pours a clear, light amber with a big fluffy white head that clings to the glass on the way down leaving good lacing. A tad light for the style but still good looking. The aroma is dominated by light malts with a strong bready character with only hints of caramel sweetness. More toasted than sweet overall. The taste follows the aroma pretty close with the light toasted malts and grains dominating with a faint fruity sweetness and a slighty dry toasted finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with lots of carbonation and crisp due to the major toasted malt presence. This is a fair amber that’s drinkable but doesn’t offer anything original or complex. Still, a good intro craft beer.

Amber color with thin lasting head. Somewhat noticeable honey nose. Easy entry that transitions smoothly with a slightly-carbonated mouthfeel to a sweet and hoppy finish.

I saw this in Vegas, but held off. Grabbed in Anaheim. Yeah, it is amber, very foamy, nice malty aroma with some cocoa. Palate is of bread dough, this is very drinkable, I’d order it at a bar.
