Commercial Description:
Named in honor of our founder Jeff’s bike trip through Belgium, Fat Tire Amber Ale marks a turning point in the young electrical engineer’s home brewing. Belgian beers use a far broader palette of ingredients (fruits, spices, esoteric yeast strains) than German or English styles. Jeff found the Belgian approach freeing. Upon his return, Jeff created Fat Tire and Abbey Belgian Ale, (assuming Abbey would be his big gun). He and his wife, Kim traveled around sampling their homebrews to the public. Fat Tire’s appeal quickly became evident. People liked everything about it. Except the name. Fat Tire won fans is in its sense of balance: toasty, biscuit-like malt flavors coasting in equilibrium with hoppy freshness.

It’s not horrible. Just completely uneventful. Tastes like lightly sweetened caramel water. Smells like lightly sweetened caramel water. Looks like lightly sweetened caramel water. It’s better than Bud and Coors. Just bland and uninspiring. ON SECOND ANALYSIS: This IS a great cooking beer! Use it to make a pot roast and you have the PERFECT beer!

Decent taste, but pretty typical amber ale. Not much stands out in this beer. Mild toasty flavor that was very drinkable and not too sweet. A little fizzy. Weak finish. Hops are not especially distinguishable.

I’ve grown tired of some of the cutesy names for brews these days, but in this case, "tire" actually serves as truth in advertisement in regards to the taste. I’ll admit I’ve grown up on Bud products, but I am still able to appreciate other types of beer, and I know a good one when I taste it. Not the case here; this is crap in convenient 12 oz. form. Sorry, beer snobs, but the emperor has no clothes.

The aroma is both hoppy and malty. The appearance is light amber with an average head. The flavor is like the aroma with both caramel and biscuits. The palate is smooth. Overall this is a well balanced beer.

Pours a light fizzy brown. Nice carbonation, not as much flavor as I had hoped. Medium white head when poured into a glass. Smell is sweet grains, tastes the same.

This one has a very grainy biscuity aroma with a light amber body. Flavour almost has a molasses flavour to it as well as some biscuity graininess. It is interesting, but is a real challenge to drink and therefore a tough one to enjoy.

Bottle: Overall this is an original tasting beer. The aroma and flavor is good. Good hop balance. It has a grainy flavor, like 6-row barley, and a bit of carmel notes from a type of crystal malt. It has a bready flavor from a bisuit type malt. Unfortunately it is a little muddy in taste. Probably from the bisuit malts, which is normal. Although this is not a favorite, I really enjoy one every once in a while.

Bottle, #436. Light copper pour with small head and good lacing. Light aroma and earthy flavor. Good Amber.
