Commercial Description:
Named in honor of our founder Jeff’s bike trip through Belgium, Fat Tire Amber Ale marks a turning point in the young electrical engineer’s home brewing. Belgian beers use a far broader palette of ingredients (fruits, spices, esoteric yeast strains) than German or English styles. Jeff found the Belgian approach freeing. Upon his return, Jeff created Fat Tire and Abbey Belgian Ale, (assuming Abbey would be his big gun). He and his wife, Kim traveled around sampling their homebrews to the public. Fat Tire’s appeal quickly became evident. People liked everything about it. Except the name. Fat Tire won fans is in its sense of balance: toasty, biscuit-like malt flavors coasting in equilibrium with hoppy freshness.

Bottle: Overall this is an original tasting beer. The aroma and flavor is good. Good hop balance. It has a grainy flavor, like 6-row barley, and a bit of carmel notes from a type of crystal malt. It has a bready flavor from a bisuit type malt. Unfortunately it is a little muddy in taste. Probably from the bisuit malts, which is normal. Although this is not a favorite, I really enjoy one every once in a while.

Bottle, #436. Light copper pour with small head and good lacing. Light aroma and earthy flavor. Good Amber.

By far the only good beer I could get in Gatlinburg / Dollywood in Tennessee, so maybe it’s local competition was helping it shine. I loved the butteriness of the flavor and the earthiness. It’s one of those beers where you can taste it’s color, which is a beautiful natural looking red. Bottle and Tap.

Bottle: Pours a deep copper with good clarity and a wispy off white head. The aroma is malty- a bit sweet with a maltose character and a hint of diacetyl. Light feel. Malt dominates the flavor with a lightly caramelized character and a mild husk note. It’s slightly buttery in the flavor as well. Not enough hop character for the style, in my opinion. Eh.

Bottle. Pours an amber body with a thin tan head. Sweet malt, toasted malt, a light breadiness with a light earthy dry hoppiness in the finish. not bad.

Very clear beer with little head. The beer has an orange hue to it. Not so bad looking. There is a nice malt aroma. Very toasty type aroma to this one. Not much of an aroma as far as hops are concerned. Thin palate with a heavy focus on malt and sweet flavors. Not really a hoppy beer at all. A very malt oriented beer with a sweet bread taste to it. Not one of my favorites; a rather bland beer if you ask me.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber, with a healthy white, fluffy head. Nose is a bit toasty, some slightly bready malt, maybe a bit of grassy hops. Flavor follows suit - toasty, slightly bready, clean malt character, just a bit of spice, and a hint of balancing, almost grassy hops. Body is light, carbonation is fairly light.

Picked this up in a bottle, pours to a amber color, very light body beer that is heavily carbonated, with very little flavor to it.
