Commercial Description:
Named in honor of our founder Jeff’s bike trip through Belgium, Fat Tire Amber Ale marks a turning point in the young electrical engineer’s home brewing. Belgian beers use a far broader palette of ingredients (fruits, spices, esoteric yeast strains) than German or English styles. Jeff found the Belgian approach freeing. Upon his return, Jeff created Fat Tire and Abbey Belgian Ale, (assuming Abbey would be his big gun). He and his wife, Kim traveled around sampling their homebrews to the public. Fat Tire’s appeal quickly became evident. People liked everything about it. Except the name. Fat Tire won fans is in its sense of balance: toasty, biscuit-like malt flavors coasting in equilibrium with hoppy freshness.

Copper color. Sort of some fruit undertones. Could be hopped more. Not what my friend made it out to be, but whats one more rating?

Draught. Low creamy lasting off-white head. Clear amber body. Wek nutty6 caramel aroma and flavor. Low carbonation. Little hops bitterness. Short aftertaste.

I used to love this beer back when I was just coming out of the typical macrobrew phase that all young people experience. These days I taste skunkiness every time I attempt to drink one. Good starter level beer, but not much more than that.

This is often the only ale in restaurants around here, and too often served in a frosty mug. I tried it at home, under more favorable tasting conditions. It lacks the depth I’m accustomed to in good ales.

On tap at the Hyatt mcCoirmick Place. Earthy amber ale, pretty nice but not the best micro at the bar

a subtle hoppyness saves this beer. pours to the orange side of amber. quick white head dissappears abruptly. not bad, not wow, just so so. on the otherhand, it is versatile and takes a back seat to other flavors, which probably accounts for it’s poplularity. For me, its my least favorite release from this brewer.
