Commercial Description:
Named in honor of our founder Jeff’s bike trip through Belgium, Fat Tire Amber Ale marks a turning point in the young electrical engineer’s home brewing. Belgian beers use a far broader palette of ingredients (fruits, spices, esoteric yeast strains) than German or English styles. Jeff found the Belgian approach freeing. Upon his return, Jeff created Fat Tire and Abbey Belgian Ale, (assuming Abbey would be his big gun). He and his wife, Kim traveled around sampling their homebrews to the public. Fat Tire’s appeal quickly became evident. People liked everything about it. Except the name. Fat Tire won fans is in its sense of balance: toasty, biscuit-like malt flavors coasting in equilibrium with hoppy freshness.

a subtle hoppyness saves this beer. pours to the orange side of amber. quick white head dissappears abruptly. not bad, not wow, just so so. on the otherhand, it is versatile and takes a back seat to other flavors, which probably accounts for it’s poplularity. For me, its my least favorite release from this brewer.

Aromas of lighlty toasted malts, vegetable and grass. Flavor dominated by burnt toast malts, carmel candy sweetness, and floral hops. Palate is smooth by not stimulating

Pours amber reddish with a thick white head. Solid, well rounded mouthfeel. Nicely balanced amber beer. Pretty good and a new everyday favorite.

Slightly hazy amber with a lasting white head. Aroma has tangerine and peach and a hint of malt. Dry, fruity and caramel flavour, with a little husk-like astringency. Too carbonated to be pleasant.

Bottle. Poured a clear amber color with a small tan head. Aroma of spices and caramel. Flavor was nutty with caramel and a slight hop note. Medium body with good carbonation.

Bottle. A nutty, alcohol aroma, a nice burnt orange color, a little acidic at first with a lingering toasted finish. Smooth and fizzy across the palate. Great light beer!

12oz bottle best by Dec 12. Pours a clear, dark golden color with a small but well retained white head. Aroma is plesant toastiness. Just a touch of roast, biscuits, malty. Kind of reminds me of Great Lakes signature flavor, that toasty biscuit like aroma that is in most of their beers. This smells better than I thought it would (I did not have high hopes for this beer). Flavor is not as good as aroma. Same qualities though more watery and bland. Some toastiness and caramel like flavors but they are quite watery. Short finish. Low bitteress, nil hop flavor. Light/medium bodied. This is what I expected overall.
