Commercial Description:
Named in honor of our founder Jeff’s bike trip through Belgium, Fat Tire Amber Ale marks a turning point in the young electrical engineer’s home brewing. Belgian beers use a far broader palette of ingredients (fruits, spices, esoteric yeast strains) than German or English styles. Jeff found the Belgian approach freeing. Upon his return, Jeff created Fat Tire and Abbey Belgian Ale, (assuming Abbey would be his big gun). He and his wife, Kim traveled around sampling their homebrews to the public. Fat Tire’s appeal quickly became evident. People liked everything about it. Except the name. Fat Tire won fans is in its sense of balance: toasty, biscuit-like malt flavors coasting in equilibrium with hoppy freshness.

(bottle BB10Oct08): Pours an orangish amber body. Big foamy orangish-white head. Head has good lacing & is lasting. Very malty hoppy aroma, some grapefruit. But lots of Engish-style malts. Some malts in the taste, nuttiness. Some spiciness, maybe a little hoppiness. Some breadiness.

Classic! Beautiful biscuit malt flavors. Great mouth feel. Wonderful dark amber color. Just a classic amber ale. You see it in so many places and it never fails to impress! A classic flavor with so many good memories attached!

Very outstanding. Beautiful amber color with a nice carmel taste with hints of chocolate. Incredible aroma that makes this beer a definite must try.

On tap Pours out a amber topped with a sand head. Aroma of light malts and a light hop. Tast a little hops and a nice malt. Not that bad.

This was just great. Deep amber/copper color with a generous white head. Sweet, toasted malt smell on the nose with just a touch of hops. Great caramelized malt flavor with a slight hop finish to it. Wonderful brew indeed, definitely worth a try.

Copper color with a thick white head. Lots of lacing around my pilsner glass. Smell is very sweet. Has a caramel aroma as well as malt and some biscuit aromas.Taste is sweet up front with a bitter malt finish.I love this beer and it has been a staple for me lately.

...bottle. Well, I havn’t had this for a while, but from what I remember when I lived out west and drank it sometimes, it wasn’t that good. It was just around most of the time. Toasted malts, with a weird aftertaste that got worse the more you drank. Bready, left some sort of coating on your tongue, which is never good. Havn’t had is since.

Draft at the Stinking Rose (San Francisco, CA). Medium amber color with a thin off-white head. Caramel, malt, biscuit aroma with a touch of hops. Decent flavor with a good balance.
