Commercial Description:
Named in honor of our founder Jeff’s bike trip through Belgium, Fat Tire Amber Ale marks a turning point in the young electrical engineer’s home brewing. Belgian beers use a far broader palette of ingredients (fruits, spices, esoteric yeast strains) than German or English styles. Jeff found the Belgian approach freeing. Upon his return, Jeff created Fat Tire and Abbey Belgian Ale, (assuming Abbey would be his big gun). He and his wife, Kim traveled around sampling their homebrews to the public. Fat Tire’s appeal quickly became evident. People liked everything about it. Except the name. Fat Tire won fans is in its sense of balance: toasty, biscuit-like malt flavors coasting in equilibrium with hoppy freshness.

From a 12 ounce bottle--Poured a thin amber body with a small off-white head. Carmal biscuit nose. Nutty, grainy with some sharp hop notes, but mostly dominated by this biscuity malt profile. Some like it. Some don’t. I lean toward the don’t, but it’s ok.

Pours an amber color with a thin white head. Tastes of malts and biscuits. Not as good as I expected but a decent beer.

Bottle: Light amber with a bit white head. Nose is of toasted malts, biscuits and a bit of underlying hops. Flavor follows...not bad, would be a decent session.

Amber color with a white soapy head. Aroma of bread, toast, and malts. Taste is unusual-like a burnt biscuit. Very different.

Tasted somewhere along my trip through the States.
Golden colored brew. Plain, dull amber. Boring.

An amber that could be more amber. The basic of the area I guess and I could drink a few. Malty and slightly ricey aroma. Taste is sweet like rice and bread. Basic and balanced.

When I first moved west I drank this beer like water. It has changed. Or is my palate better. Maybe. Very boring and common amber ale.

On tap at Flying Saucer - Houston on 07/28/08. Clear amber body with a rocky off-white head. Grainy, slighty nutty aroma. Grainy flavor, more light nuttiness. Medium body with moderate carbonation.
