Commercial Description:
Named in honor of our founder Jeff’s bike trip through Belgium, Fat Tire Amber Ale marks a turning point in the young electrical engineer’s home brewing. Belgian beers use a far broader palette of ingredients (fruits, spices, esoteric yeast strains) than German or English styles. Jeff found the Belgian approach freeing. Upon his return, Jeff created Fat Tire and Abbey Belgian Ale, (assuming Abbey would be his big gun). He and his wife, Kim traveled around sampling their homebrews to the public. Fat Tire’s appeal quickly became evident. People liked everything about it. Except the name. Fat Tire won fans is in its sense of balance: toasty, biscuit-like malt flavors coasting in equilibrium with hoppy freshness.

I notice that this beer is at about the 50th percentile, which makes sense, since it is so average and middle of the road. A malty aroma is quite nice, and the beer goes down as smooth as anything, but the flavor, which is excellent, is quite thin. I see this beer as a compromise between full, robust flavor and the ability to take an entire bottle in one gulp. A great beer is there, but it doesn’t have the courage to remain full, and is instead quite watered down.

bottle. poured a clear amber with what seemed to be an orange hue and a frothy white/beige head that laced the glass all the way down. aroma was malt and biscuit. flavor was good with malt, hop bitterness, and some toastyness. this is one i could keep in the fridge everyday.

This is a good beer to just sip on a hot day. It is refreshing and light and has a mouth feel almost like soda. I like the slightly nutty taste, it Not a knock out amazing beer, but I always get it when I’m in the mood for something nice and simple.

Smells of dark caramel malts. Tastes like it smells. A fairly generic, yet enjoyable amber. Plenty of caramel malts with some light hops. Not bad

It’s not summer without some Fat Tire down by the river. Solid beer you can drink call day.

Bomber best before October 24, 2008. Pours a thin, crystalline copper color with a fluffy white head. The aroma is predictable and underwhelming, though solid. Straight up biscuits, wood, and slight corn are found in the aroma. The flavor is more: obvious biscuity qualities, approachable bitterness, modest caramel sweetness. Very textbook amber ale. It’s a little thin, but not problematic.

Bottle...Dark amber body-beige head...sweet on the nose (caramel) + malty...an undertone of sour on the last part of the sniff...drippy lacing forming....body thin but tasty--a sweet malty burst with added vanilla + a toffee caramel mix...these flavors are all mid-palate, like a surprise party in your mouth...the finish is mellow but hearty, a never ending muddled malt that, well, does end, seems to have many layers--simple, yet complex

Pours medium bodied with thick head. Smells toasty and warm. Malty. Tastes of biscuts and slight hops. slightly pithy on the aftertaste. I have to agree with "thejoeshow" that this is over rated. It’s good but not a beer I would seek out.
