Commercial Description:
Named in honor of our founder Jeff’s bike trip through Belgium, Fat Tire Amber Ale marks a turning point in the young electrical engineer’s home brewing. Belgian beers use a far broader palette of ingredients (fruits, spices, esoteric yeast strains) than German or English styles. Jeff found the Belgian approach freeing. Upon his return, Jeff created Fat Tire and Abbey Belgian Ale, (assuming Abbey would be his big gun). He and his wife, Kim traveled around sampling their homebrews to the public. Fat Tire’s appeal quickly became evident. People liked everything about it. Except the name. Fat Tire won fans is in its sense of balance: toasty, biscuit-like malt flavors coasting in equilibrium with hoppy freshness.

It’s not summer without some Fat Tire down by the river. Solid beer you can drink call day.

Bomber best before October 24, 2008. Pours a thin, crystalline copper color with a fluffy white head. The aroma is predictable and underwhelming, though solid. Straight up biscuits, wood, and slight corn are found in the aroma. The flavor is more: obvious biscuity qualities, approachable bitterness, modest caramel sweetness. Very textbook amber ale. It’s a little thin, but not problematic.

Bottle...Dark amber body-beige head...sweet on the nose (caramel) + malty...an undertone of sour on the last part of the sniff...drippy lacing forming....body thin but tasty--a sweet malty burst with added vanilla + a toffee caramel mix...these flavors are all mid-palate, like a surprise party in your mouth...the finish is mellow but hearty, a never ending muddled malt that, well, does end, seems to have many layers--simple, yet complex

Pours medium bodied with thick head. Smells toasty and warm. Malty. Tastes of biscuts and slight hops. slightly pithy on the aftertaste. I have to agree with "thejoeshow" that this is over rated. It’s good but not a beer I would seek out.

It’s kinda dumb it has taken me this long to do a write up on this beer, but whatever. (this review is for the bottle...I completely prefer it on tap) 12 oz bottle. Pours a medium amber color with a frothy white head that laces very well. Aroma is malt with a biscuit overtone. Very light hop aroma, you have to search for a bit. Flavor is sweet and caramely with a yeasty/bready finish to it. Very smooth on the palate. Very easy drinker. If you haven’t had this beer I suggest you try it to know what everyone is talking about, but there is way too much hype about this beer. New Belgium is an awesome brewery and this is not their best beer, even if it is their flagship brew.

Pours a sparkling medium amber with a frothy white head. Aroma is moderatly malty, lightly hoppy and heavily yeasty of barnyard, apple, pineapple and whie wine. Flavoe is balanced twords bitter, with some carmel sweetness and spicy phenols. finishes more bitter. Light to medium bodied, watery and softly carbonated.

I love to spot a beer I haven’t tried on a menu, and quickly ordered this one on a recent trip to Chicago. Beer poured a slightly cloudy, medium brownish copper color, with not too much head. Decent flavor, if unremarkable. It made for a good meal beer, as it wasn’t so heavy as to dominate the meal nor so weak in flavor as to offer nothing of worth. Not a great beer, but it’d do in a pinch.
