Commercial Description:
Named in honor of our founder Jeff’s bike trip through Belgium, Fat Tire Amber Ale marks a turning point in the young electrical engineer’s home brewing. Belgian beers use a far broader palette of ingredients (fruits, spices, esoteric yeast strains) than German or English styles. Jeff found the Belgian approach freeing. Upon his return, Jeff created Fat Tire and Abbey Belgian Ale, (assuming Abbey would be his big gun). He and his wife, Kim traveled around sampling their homebrews to the public. Fat Tire’s appeal quickly became evident. People liked everything about it. Except the name. Fat Tire won fans is in its sense of balance: toasty, biscuit-like malt flavors coasting in equilibrium with hoppy freshness.

Bomber. Pours amber. Pretty average stuff, nice gently carbonated, medium-light mouthfeel. Flavor primarily of soft malts and maybe some apricot.

Nice amber color, great fluffy white head that lasts quite awhile. Not much aroma too it at all, really couldn’t smell anything. Smooth malty flavor. Good drinking beer, but not much else too it.

Nice clear coppery apple juice color with a creamy peach skin colored head. Nice lacing on the sides of the glass. Coppery amber malts with warm caramel and a breadiness. Smooth and cool on the tongue with a nice maltiness and an unexpectedly bittering finish. Strong hop bite for an amber. Nice beer though not as great as too many more casual beer fans make it out to be.

I’ve heard so many people talk about what a great beer this is and I can’t figure it out. Taste is very bland - no flavor to note nor anything special on the palate.

Bottle (and kudos to NB for their consistently lovely graphics and bottle design.) Pours a nice amber with a two-finger white head that sticks around for a short stay. Lots of bakery smells in the aroma. Flavor is heavily weighted toward the malt side with only traces of hoppiness. Some caramel sweetness and light roast. Overall, a very drinkable beer and one of the better readily available beers in the States.

Deep copper color, foamy off white head with lots of lacing. A decent amount of bubbles flowing to the surface of the glass. Light malt aroma mixed with honey and vanilla and banana - it smells like a desert. No bitterness to the aroma. Taste is honey sweet like the aroma. It sure tastes fresh and well balanced neither too malty or too bitter from hops. Palate is creamy and light. I think most people would enjoy this beer - nothing unique, just perfected ale.

Bottled: Great beer that is well carbonated and fresh. Pours an amber color with white lacing. Tates of malts and flour with hints of hops. My dad’s favorite beer!

This is the most overrated beer by people who know nothing about beer...and I hate those people. They probably like it because it isn’t an assertive beer with much flavor. It’s something different than a macro but still very "safe". Pretty lame but is alright.
