Commercial Description:
Named in honor of our founder Jeff’s bike trip through Belgium, Fat Tire Amber Ale marks a turning point in the young electrical engineer’s home brewing. Belgian beers use a far broader palette of ingredients (fruits, spices, esoteric yeast strains) than German or English styles. Jeff found the Belgian approach freeing. Upon his return, Jeff created Fat Tire and Abbey Belgian Ale, (assuming Abbey would be his big gun). He and his wife, Kim traveled around sampling their homebrews to the public. Fat Tire’s appeal quickly became evident. People liked everything about it. Except the name. Fat Tire won fans is in its sense of balance: toasty, biscuit-like malt flavors coasting in equilibrium with hoppy freshness.

The beer pours a clear amber color with a slightly creamy off white head. The nose is combination of a funky malt and a slightly bitter hop. The mouth feel is crisp with sweet caramel notes and a slightly bitter hop finish that is short lived.

So so good. After 3-4 of them I start getting a bitter aftertaste. Pretty rough on the stomach the next morning.

Bottle. Pours light amber with thin white head and good lacing. Aroma is fruity and somewhat similar to Midas Touch. Very malty, biscuit-like flavor and easy to drink.

Pouts a transparent reddish brown with a small white head. Aroma of caramel, malt, fruit. Flavor is caramel, malt, with a sweet finish. Nothing spectacular, but given the wide distribution it’s often one of the best beer in crappy gas-stations when you have to pick the lesser of evils.

Great amber look. Little to no head when properly poured. Aromas: sweet, fruit and citrus. Sucks I can not get it in NC! If anyone can though send me a message!

Bottle at Library bar. Pours brown amber with little to no head. Aroma of some citrus, fruit, maltiness. Flavor is mostly malt. Got sick of drinking this beer over the last few years, but going to a bar with limited beer options gives me a chance to rate it.

An average session brew. Pours amber with a small off-white head. Aroma of sweet malt, citrus, and fruit. Taste is of malt, hops, and caramel. Finish is slightly bitter. Mouth is medium bodied and carbonation is mild.

A great beer overall, highly coveted brewery in the states that don’t carry their beer. Pours a clear amber colour with a full white head. Taste is well balanced. Hops are clean and refreshing. Toasted, biscuity malt characterstics are evident and pleasent. Aroma is nutty, soft and sweet.
