Commercial Description:
Named in honor of our founder Jeff’s bike trip through Belgium, Fat Tire Amber Ale marks a turning point in the young electrical engineer’s home brewing. Belgian beers use a far broader palette of ingredients (fruits, spices, esoteric yeast strains) than German or English styles. Jeff found the Belgian approach freeing. Upon his return, Jeff created Fat Tire and Abbey Belgian Ale, (assuming Abbey would be his big gun). He and his wife, Kim traveled around sampling their homebrews to the public. Fat Tire’s appeal quickly became evident. People liked everything about it. Except the name. Fat Tire won fans is in its sense of balance: toasty, biscuit-like malt flavors coasting in equilibrium with hoppy freshness.

Looks like iced tea with a sizable creamy head. Taste is caramel malt and citrus hops. This is an easy drinking thirst-quencher.

12oz bottle. Deep honey pour, clear, small off-white head to ring, little lace. Aroma of honey, caramel malts, grains, dog breath. Mouth is medium with abundant, foamy carbonation and a fairly dry beer. Flavor is malty with a touch of caramel, some grains, sugar, faint hops. Pretty nondescript, but lightly sweet.

Some pretty good stuff from New Belgium, tasty and enjoyable. Yet, they do much better than this.

12-oz. Pours a crystal clear light amber with a big, frothy, then creamy light tan head. Rather unpleasant nose of sweat and a bit of toasty malt. Creamy, medium, fairly flat body. Toast, nuts, butter, and sweat on the mid-palate. Has virtually no finish.

Pours more of a light copper than an amber. Aroma is malty. Taste is more complex that aroma or how it looks. Nice toasty malt flavor. Some nuttiness. Just a hint of hops to balance it all out. Decent drinker but the price is quite high. Good gateway beer into better craft beers as well.

12oz can - Aroma is very malty, wet and musty with some caramel. Flavor matches with a hint of hops in the finish. Palate is creamy and smooth. Non-offensive, easy drinking and one of the best cans of beer available in Indiana (that’s not saying much).

A light brown pour with a great taste and a good crisp feel, but there’s something about the aftertaste that I don’t appreciate.

12 oz. bottle- Not bad, not my favorite amber ale, not my favorite style. Got a mellow malty flavor, drinkable.
