Commercial Description:
Named in honor of our founder Jeff’s bike trip through Belgium, Fat Tire Amber Ale marks a turning point in the young electrical engineer’s home brewing. Belgian beers use a far broader palette of ingredients (fruits, spices, esoteric yeast strains) than German or English styles. Jeff found the Belgian approach freeing. Upon his return, Jeff created Fat Tire and Abbey Belgian Ale, (assuming Abbey would be his big gun). He and his wife, Kim traveled around sampling their homebrews to the public. Fat Tire’s appeal quickly became evident. People liked everything about it. Except the name. Fat Tire won fans is in its sense of balance: toasty, biscuit-like malt flavors coasting in equilibrium with hoppy freshness.

12 oz. bottle- Not bad, not my favorite amber ale, not my favorite style. Got a mellow malty flavor, drinkable.

Reviewed on 21 March 2009, soon after it hit NC shelves! Appearanace: Russet amber that glimmers in the glass. Lots of bubbles that rise to a thin off-white head. Aroma: Toast and homemade popcorn. Taste: Toasty, malty, firm biscuit presence leads into a mild warm hop statement, and finishes with a bitter snap. Lovely! Palate: Goes down smooth, jovially, agreeably, and maltily. Overall: A great, well-balanced brew with a malt-foot forward. Easy, extroverted, not too complex but not at all boring! It’s categorized as an "American Amber/Red Ale" but to me it has shades of a good ESB (with less bitterness). Nothing fancy -- but you don’t always want a fancy beer. This hits the spot for a no-frills, solid, March-Madness-watching amber ale.

Pours a clear, light brown. Minimal amount of foam. The aroma is sour and slightly malty. The flavor is crisp and lagerish with a nutty aftertaste.

Bottle at Monks Cafe, Wallingatan Stockholm. Pours amber with a off-white head. Malty aroma with some bad vegitables. Malts and hop taste. Good but simple

A clear light brown pour with a large cream colored head that stands up nice, lots of big bubbles, and leaves lace. Looks like sea foam. Aroma is an earthy, roasty caramel malt smell, a hint of citrusy hops at the end. Flavor has more sweet caramel notes to it, but is generally a bit understated. Watery. Fits in with other amber ales: it’s pretty bland and boring.

Bottle. Amber, small white head. Malty, rotten vegtables. Hops, sweet malty in aftertaste. Simple but nice.

On tap at the brewery at 7/18/09. Pours a nice amber with bubbly head. Caramel and lavendar aromas. Very sweet rich malty caramel, but balanced very well with some bitterness from the hops. Also a nice finish. Have had this dozens of times and finally rating it and it really is as good as its reputation. Definitely one of my all-time favorite session beers.

12 oz bottle. Nice ruby amber beer with a small beige head, but does leave a little lacing. Aroma is mostly orange citrus, with a little bit of fresh baked bread. It’s not overly complex. Light on the malt, kind of thin, a bit of grapefruit flavor, and some hop bitterness. Finishes with little left behind. Ok, but rather have something else.
