Commercial Description:
Named in honor of our founder Jeff’s bike trip through Belgium, Fat Tire Amber Ale marks a turning point in the young electrical engineer’s home brewing. Belgian beers use a far broader palette of ingredients (fruits, spices, esoteric yeast strains) than German or English styles. Jeff found the Belgian approach freeing. Upon his return, Jeff created Fat Tire and Abbey Belgian Ale, (assuming Abbey would be his big gun). He and his wife, Kim traveled around sampling their homebrews to the public. Fat Tire’s appeal quickly became evident. People liked everything about it. Except the name. Fat Tire won fans is in its sense of balance: toasty, biscuit-like malt flavors coasting in equilibrium with hoppy freshness.

I was in Phoenix and picked this up at a local corner store. Although there are a number of American Amber Ales out there that out shine this one, you could do a lot worse at a gas station corner store. Could be hoppier to balance the malt sweetness.

This isn’t as bad as people make it out to be, a decent mass produced beer from a pretty large Colorado brewery. The aroma is rather stale, it’s very easily drinkable with a thin amber finish. This is a good cheap beer available in bombers that I can drink and use to bottle homebrew.

This is a rather harsh beer to drink. The beer is thick and syrupy. It taste like mass-produced white bread that is starting to turn bad. I won’t buy this again.

Appearance: Pours a medium golden with a nice white head that disappears quickly leaving a nice amount of lace in the glass.
Aroma: Bready, yeasty aroma that is almost a sour smell
Taste: Grainy malt with very little hop bitterness. Mouth feel is watery
This is one beer that is sometimes good and other times I don’t know why I bought it. It is not a process issue, I think it has to do with the temp you drink it.

This is a very good "beginner" beer, I guess you could say. Very bready, buiscuity almost.

An average beer, fairly available and drinkable. Probably a good beginner beer for someone who isn’t ready for something a little more complex or heavy.

Nice crisp tawny brown color with shallow head. Good hop aroma - citrusy but flavor profile is very nutty and caramelly. Whole lot going on in this one.

Not much in the aroma department; detectable yeast, some bready malts, very little hop aroma. Pours a clear amber, decent head that fades quickly. Taste is biscuity malt, though quite light, and a faint hop freshness. Quite watery, not very flavorful. Fairly empty middle palate . . . taste is closer to a macro than it is to a microbrewery. I feel like this beer has gone downhill in recent years as the brewery has expanded its distribution. Far less flavorful than I remember . . . from 22 oz. bottle into a pint glass.

12 ounce can from 12 pack. Copper amber pour into thick pillowy white foamy head that dissipates into sticky lacing as carbonated bubbles rise to a thin layer of foam in the glass. Aroma of malty biscuits. Initial flavor of yeasty toasted white bread, malty fruit fading to slight hoppy bitterness with a bit of spice in the finish.
