Commercial Description:
Frambozen begins with the aroma of fresh red raspberries, followed by the ripe seductiveness of a fruity brown ale with depth and delicate malt notes. It is deep ruby in color, with flavors just as rich. Every year, New Belgium sends a delegate to the Pacific Northwest to oversee the process of turning freshly picked berries into a pure juice to be added in fermentation. The coming of Thanksgiving at New Belgium is ushered in with the first sighting of our cellar operators scuttling about, covered head to tow in a festive crimson berry wash.

This tasted like raspberry juice. No thanks. Maybe a hop or 2 next time, NB.

Bottle fron Stine. Pours a dark brown color with a raspberry colored hue. Full white head. Aroma of straight raspberries. The taste was bitter and bland raspberries with very little sweetness. Bitter tart finish.

Not very good at all. 93rd style percentile? Really? Red in color. Artificial raspberry aroma and flavor, and there is not enough of either. Dry.

Reddish mid-brown with foaming head (in my amazing glass. Raspberry and malt in the aroma. Medium at best mouthfeel. Raspberry always in the mild brown, from start to finish.Drying aftertaste. A serviceable fruit beer, but nothing to especially seek out.

Interesting beer. Fruit nose and initial taste thin quickly to bitter finish. Full, powerful flavor to start with - mostly raspberry and malt, although the fruit angle does come off a bit antiseptic. A little watery on the tail end as the fruit falls away. Lingering aftertaste of raspberry five minutes after you take your last sip. Not bad...not great...but not bad.

Sampled at MN Ratebeer Winter Gathering in Maplewood, MN and supplied by brewfiend. From a 12-oz bottle pours a semi-hazy brown amber brew with a fast dissolving off-white head. Aroma of tart raspberries, some oak wood, and a touch of roasted nuts. Taste is medium bodied, some carbonation with flavors of tart raspberries, light caramel malt and some roasted nuts. Finish retains the tart raspberry flavor that lingers around. An interesting American fruit beer.

Bottle. Pours a reddish brown with thin beige head. Aroma is lightly sweet with definite rasberry overtones. Flavor has a good rasberry acidic quality with some nutty and malty undertones, well balanced but in kind of a clashing way. Finish is short and hints at sourness but overall still on the rasberry candy side. My bottle states 6.5% not 7% but even so it did not come across as warm. It’s not bad though it’s not something I’ll buy each year.

Taproom. Great raspberry aroma. Brown ale with off-white head. Sweet tasting, medium body. Mellow roasted malt gives way to a sour fruit finish. Nice for dessert by the fire.
