Commercial Description:
Frambozen begins with the aroma of fresh red raspberries, followed by the ripe seductiveness of a fruity brown ale with depth and delicate malt notes. It is deep ruby in color, with flavors just as rich. Every year, New Belgium sends a delegate to the Pacific Northwest to oversee the process of turning freshly picked berries into a pure juice to be added in fermentation. The coming of Thanksgiving at New Belgium is ushered in with the first sighting of our cellar operators scuttling about, covered head to tow in a festive crimson berry wash.

A decent brown ale, bit the sour raspberry flavor- I know it is a raspberry beer- was a little too overwhelming in the beer. I know hop haters decry the lack of balance in some IPAs, well I believe the lack of balance in this case is worse as it overwhelms any traditional beer aspect, unless you are going for a lambic beer.

We get a lot of New Belgium here in Eureka including Fat Tire, which I do not like. So I wondered what they would do with a fruit beer. The local Lost Coast Brewery does pretty good with fruit beers so that was the standard of comparison. This poured a brown color with a medium tan head that did not last long. Nose was of raspberry that almost overwhelms the malt. Mouthfeel is rich and clean. Flavor is mostly raspberry, but it is well done and is enjoyable to drink. Not bad at all for a fruit beer.

this isnt my normal style but decided to try it. dark brown with thin head a bit cloudy. has a very nice raspberry aroma. the flavor was absurdly raspberry which isnt to bad but would have hoped it would be a little less fruit forward.

12 oz bottle via Bartzilla the host with the most. Beer 15 of the Bartzilla’s Death Metal Beer Tasting 1/12/2007, consumed with many great beer drinkers including Bartzilla, Naven, as well as Lee creator of Arrogant Bastard, and a really cool guy. This beer tasted really really crappy. After La Folie, and Rasberry Tart and a variety of other real fruit beers this comes off as garbage. This felt almost undrinkable to me.

Bottle courtesy of Duane. Dark brown body with very little head. The aroma has some light raspberry and a little bit of sour barnyard funk. There is some nice grass flavors in there. The taste has some tart raspberries and a hint of dry vineous character. This is pretty subtle and interesting.

An aroma of raspberries. Also malt, but not so much as the fruit. Beautiful ruby red color with a lasting white head; which laces. Starts with raspberry, medium mouthfeel, malt moves around, but first, last and always there is raspberry. The malt melts away, and the finish is dry. Whether the bitter ending (moderate) is hop or raspberry is a question. There is a herbal note in the finish.

Bottles from Duane as extra’s. deep reddish brown, decent pinkish head. Aroma is rotten fruit and not in a good way. Not much else. Flavor again tons of rotten fruit and unbearable extract like raspberry sweetness. Would never guess this is real fruit. Finishes dry and chalky.

pours a nice ruby color with a faint ruby colored head. Raspberry definitely takes over in this brew, which is to be expected. Hops do balance this one out pretty well but this one is mostly malt... sweet malt... reminds me of a lambic - but not as sour. Overall not too bad. My wife likes this beer quite a bit. A little bit if a spicy flavor is present too... sort of like a cinnamon spice or something.
