Commercial Description:
Frambozen begins with the aroma of fresh red raspberries, followed by the ripe seductiveness of a fruity brown ale with depth and delicate malt notes. It is deep ruby in color, with flavors just as rich. Every year, New Belgium sends a delegate to the Pacific Northwest to oversee the process of turning freshly picked berries into a pure juice to be added in fermentation. The coming of Thanksgiving at New Belgium is ushered in with the first sighting of our cellar operators scuttling about, covered head to tow in a festive crimson berry wash.

Bottle... poured reddish/brownish/ruby with a thick, off-white, slightly pink head. Aroma of malts and grains and berry-like notes. Dry palate, acidic and and a bit souring, fruity-like sweet tones and of course berries. Tart finish.

12 0z. bottle. pours a medium short lived head, over a clear, reddish amber (SRM 15) body.....nose of raspberry, bit of caramel....taste is primarily sweet raspberry to start finishing slightly astringent, like raspberry can....mouth feel is light carbonation medium. This is a rather simple combination of flavors, but it a fruit beer that tastes like the fruit.

Bottle-mixed6. Really nice looking, dark brown with a pink/tan head. Nose is light malt with background of raspberry jam. Flavor is heavy on the raspberry extract, With the yeasty caramel just in the background. The fruit tastes like raspberry bubblegum. With a little more assertive yeast/wild character, this would be good. As/is, Meh. A bit Too sweet and artificial.

Pretty pour - a reddish brown with a decent head. At first whiff, this one appears to be attempting something of a blend between a Lindeman’s Framboise and a Duchesse. Sweet, slightly artificial raspberries counter a grainy malt contingent in the aroma. The flavor follows, but ends up being pretty darn artificial. It doesn’t taste like someone added raspberries to the brew, it tastes like someone added raspberry jolly ranchers to the brew. I thought this one might be decent, and with some tartness to it, it might just be (a bit of la terroir in this would be great)... but as is, it’s too sweet with not enough to counter, and ends up artificial.

Pours clear rust-brown, with with a one-and-a-half finger, pinkish-beige lasting head, fine lacing. Aroma of biscuit, yeast, citrus, and a little raspberry. Medium-light body, zesty, and a little bit tart and dry. Upfront toast flavor, with some background notes of raspberry and cherry. Has a lightly bitter finish with hay and citrus notes. Mild, well balanced, and very drinkable.

Dark ruby color. Light brown head with a red tinge. Aroma of raspberries. Strangely tart and malty sweet at the same time with hints of chocolate. Very interesting combination of flavors that do seems to pair well.

Aroma of raisin bread, some dried fruit when swirled. Clear dark ruby, small tan head. This bottle has about 9 months on it. Dried raspberries, bursting with sweetness up front, leathery soft malt finish. Holding up nicely, no off flavors, though I remember liking this more when it was fresh.

Well this beer lives up to its label completely. The color is brown with red tints and I swear the off-white head had a tinge of pink to it, hallucination maybe? It smells like a brown ale should with slight hints of the raspberries. The first taste is good and makes me think of raspberry flavored chocolate. This beer teases you with only the slightest tart flavor hiding, must have sour! I have heard others say this has too much raspberry but I disagree. This is a fine beer from New Belgium.
