Commercial Description:
Frambozen begins with the aroma of fresh red raspberries, followed by the ripe seductiveness of a fruity brown ale with depth and delicate malt notes. It is deep ruby in color, with flavors just as rich. Every year, New Belgium sends a delegate to the Pacific Northwest to oversee the process of turning freshly picked berries into a pure juice to be added in fermentation. The coming of Thanksgiving at New Belgium is ushered in with the first sighting of our cellar operators scuttling about, covered head to tow in a festive crimson berry wash.

12 oz bottle, pured into shaker produces a reddish-purple, thick head with decent spotty lacing. Smells and tastes as advertised: a very strong presence of raspberries, in an overall remarkably good beer. Doesn’t taste too sweet, and not sour like some say. An incredibly silky mouthfeel, and a smooth aftertaste. Seasonal, so grab it when you see it.

I was expecting something fairly mediocre and I got something far beyond mediocrity. This is a really nice fruit beer that’s both satisfying on the sweet frutiness and the beer profile. Aroma is like smelling raspberry jam combined with a nice brown ale. Appearance is just something beautiful to look at, like a deep garnet ring that’s clear as can be. Mouthfeel was a bit watery so I’d have to say that was it’s achilles. Flavor was not overly sweet IMO. Just a nice balance of fruit and beer, so I’d have to say for this particular style it’s very well done. I would definitely get this again if I’m ever in the mood for a fruit beer. I’d think this would go exceptionally well with a raspberry cheesecake.

Tried this about a month ago and just now rating in...but I loved it. Reminded me of what drinking chocolate covered rasberries would be like.. I’ll look forward to getting this again next year hopefully.

Bottle. brown body, big frothy beige head. Tart yet sweet and jammy rasperry aroma. Flavour is quite sweet raspberry with just a hint of tart leafy raspberry with lots of jammy fruit notes. The underlying beer really only shows itself in the aftertaste. Average to medium palate has a saccharine quality to it. I was hoping for more to this one. Thanks for the bottle JoeMcPhee.

Bottled. Pours brown with a bubbly head tha leaves a bit of lacing. Thick raspberry aroma. Flavors of raspberries and toast. Not overly sweet like I thought it might be but still a little bit heavy on the raspberries.

Deep reddish brown with a great aroma of raspberry and malts. Fruit flavor dominates, with a mix of berry sweetness and a lambic-like tartness. Malts are quite hidden, but emerge as it warms. No noticable hops, just a good balance of fruit and brown ale.

Pours clear ruby reddish brown with pink-tan medium head. Tart, dry aroma of raspberries and toasted grain. Flavor is tart, raspberries first, then medium toasted grain, then a bit of malt sweetness to mitigate the tartness. Neither too tart nor too sweet, the raspberry never comes across as artificial, though it could have been a bit better integrated. Medium body and mouthfeel. Good Christmas beer.
