Commercial Description:
Frambozen begins with the aroma of fresh red raspberries, followed by the ripe seductiveness of a fruity brown ale with depth and delicate malt notes. It is deep ruby in color, with flavors just as rich. Every year, New Belgium sends a delegate to the Pacific Northwest to oversee the process of turning freshly picked berries into a pure juice to be added in fermentation. The coming of Thanksgiving at New Belgium is ushered in with the first sighting of our cellar operators scuttling about, covered head to tow in a festive crimson berry wash.

Thanks to csbosox for sending this a while back. Clear deeply colored brown body that has a deep red running through it. On top is a generous head of creamy blush that coats the glass as it relaxes and slips below. Tart fruit and cream aroma. Smooth slightly sweet with a touch of fruit that adds but doesn’t over power the malt. Alcohol completely hidden in this. Well balanced, not too tart or too sweet.

Bottle courtesty of csbosox: Brown body that turns to a brilliant ruby (as uriel noted) when held to the light; small light tan head. Aroma smells exactly like hot wort before the hops have been added mixed with snapple raspberry iced tea. That’s caramel, amber liquid malt extract, cereal grains, freshly milled malt, raspberry syrup, and a hint of brown sugar. On the light end of medium bodied, slick, medium lively carbonation. Taste is exactly what you would expect from the aroma: sweet, syrupy malt extract, grains, fresh malt, light chocolate notes in the background, syrupy sweet raspberry, mild bitter tea flavors. Finishes pretty dry with notes of cereal and raspberry. I like it, but just can’t get over the fact that it takes almost identical to drinking wort.

Aroma is of a maly brown ale with some fruit aroma. Body is brown with no head. Lacked the sweet tart bite of most frambozen beer I’ve had. Flavor had a hint of raspberry and the malt made this beer rich enough to leave a roasted ale flavor on the palate. Decent brew.

Gorgeous brown color that turns ruby as you look through the glass at a light. Has a lot of raspberry aroma, with more sweet aromas that may still be the raspberry. It’s otherwise a fairly typical brown ale that’s nicely malty and not very hoppy. I like it a lot, but I’m a big fan of fruity beers. If you like fruity beers, it’s a good one, but if you’re not fond of’em, send yours to me. :)

Pours a fantastic ruddy brown color with a quickly evaporating tan head. Syrupy sweet raspberry aroma overpowers any other "beer" smell other than a hint of hops. Flavor is that of a pretty standard brown ale infused with a lingering raspberry flavor that eventually fades, leaving the burnt brown ale flavor behind. It’s pretty tastey, even if it’s not that complex.

Very well done, nice earthy rasberry flavor, Medium body is full but not cloying. Some chocolate and malt flavor mingle with the fruit flavor for a wonderful beer.

Thanks to Buck Dich for this one. Pours a fabulous clear ruby color with medium off-white head. One of the rubyest beers I’ve ever seen....as ruby as my wife’s toenails. Aroma of malt, raspberries, toffee, cabernet, earthy peat. Tastes malty, with a firm raspberry element in addition to toffee, brown sugar, and almonds. Nice density of palate strength, and extremely fruity and smooth without being too tart or too sweet. The beer is not over-tart, and it is balanced effectively. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.....New Belgium is the Belgium of America. Jeeves, get me another, my good chap!
