Commercial Description:
Frambozen begins with the aroma of fresh red raspberries, followed by the ripe seductiveness of a fruity brown ale with depth and delicate malt notes. It is deep ruby in color, with flavors just as rich. Every year, New Belgium sends a delegate to the Pacific Northwest to oversee the process of turning freshly picked berries into a pure juice to be added in fermentation. The coming of Thanksgiving at New Belgium is ushered in with the first sighting of our cellar operators scuttling about, covered head to tow in a festive crimson berry wash.

Appearance: A ruby color, transparent, good carbonation. Head is an off white (pinkish) with low retention, and sticky lacing. Aroma: Fruit, raspberries, tart, and malt. Flavor: malt, raspberries with a tart/dry finish. Palate: light/medium bodied, syrupy and effervescent with an astringent finish. Kinda like your workin’ man’s lambic.

Bottle Pours a clear dark Mahogany with a modest light brown head. Nice lacing as well. Aroma is the typical brown ale dark malts light hops and there is the Raspberry as well. Not too strong and compliments nicely. Flavor has more of the Ras than I expected. Not too sweet goes very well with the other dark malty flavors. Quite nice. Feel is very smooth and heavy. Quite soft carbonation and a woody/Ras trailer. Yum !

Redish color, white head goes away quickly. The aroma is pretty subtle. Some maltiness and maybe some raspberry, I expected the smell to be more pronounced. (It is not as subtle now that the beer has warmed a bit. In fact the raspberry comes through a lot more now that it is at 48 degrees.) The flavor is balanced between malty and hoppy, though those flavors transform into a nice, easy raspberry flavor. The raspberry taste stays with you . My bottle indicates the Alc% as 6.5%, but you would never guess it. It also says you should taste it at 50 degrees, they are right, it is a much better beer that way. This would be great with a chocolate dessert.

Pours a cloudy hue with a halo of a head. Aromas of raspberries. Mouthfeel is light-bodied. Flavors of raspberries with a alight hop profile and not much else.

This brew pours with an amber brown body topped by a thin head with little lacing. The aroma is sweet and full of raspberry with a slight maltiness. The flavor is slightly sweet and malty with a touch of raspberry and a little nuttiness. Meidum bodied and smooth.

pours with a diminishing, crimson-hued head; wine, red raspberry, and yeast in the fairly weak nose; pretty subtle berry flavor over a sweet, wal-nutty malt base; somewhat sour and tart; alcohol is barely percepable; lacks depth and complexity, but it’s damn good for a fruit beer.

In terms of beers that include fruit in the mix, I would place this beer ahead of many others I have tried. The raspberry essence works well with this brown ale (it even has a tinge of the purple/red raspberry shade to it).
