Commercial Description:
Ale brewed with Lemon Peel and infused with Espresso
Giddy Up is a delicious juxtaposition of coffee, sustainably grown in Brazil and espresso-roasted locally, pressed into an ale with the deep color of a copper cowboy kettle. First whiff is full of sweeet caramel, toffee, latte. Then, a hint of lemon scone flavor from the addition of lemon peel. Body is creamy, resonant of espresso, yet the finish is bright, even a bit frisky. An ale to git along with...

On Tap at The Hopyard @ San Ramon. Very nutty - in fact if I was told they used pecan and walnut instead of coffee and lemon, I wouldn’t be surprised. Pours dark amber min white head. Lots of nutty notes. Tastes sweet - I’m not tasting the espesso but its good. Finish is clean, with a sweet note.

Tasted 1/6/09. 12oz bottle. Filtered with a dark copper hue. Vigorous pour produces a finger width of beige head. Watery coffee aromas with a hint of cocoa. Medium bodied with a thin, weak coffee flavor. Typical NBB house yeast character. Finishes with a decent hop kick. Enjoyable drinking. Good difference from the normal coffee beer offering.

Definitely coffee on the nose. Deep amber color. Lemon peel adds just enough to make it light and interesting. Not much else there, but I just ate a pretty spicy burrito, so my mouth is kind of numb. Considering "espresso-roasted" doesn’t necessarily mean anything in particular, I can’t tell the difference between this and infused with regular old coffee, but interesting beer nonetheless.

Opaque brown pour with a tiny white head that fades almost immediately. Huge coffee aroma, not really getting anything else out of it but it is pleasant enough. Heavy coffee taste as well, some light caramel as well with the tiniest hint of lemon flavoring coming through at the very end. The beer sounded a lot more interesting than it actually was, but not a bad effort.

Draft at brewery Aug ’08: poured a brown color with a thick head. The aroma was coffee. The flavor was like drinking a coffee. It was sweet with caramel and roasted malts. The lemon was hardly present. Overall, OK, different, but not great.

courtesy of vasdef42. Cheers for sending so many New Belgium goodness. Pours brown with white head with lasting retention. Aroma has some definite notes of coffee - espresso, though not overbearing remains very enjoyable, the lemon is very light and only a zesty touch can be noted. Taste is pure enjoyement. New Belgium has brought the coffee touch in a style that is not what we usually see, and they have done a great job at it. Roasted malts with light notes of coffee and subtle zesty lemon (very hard to notice but add a very tiny note of bitterness. There are also noticeable caramel and chocolate that come enhance the tasting experience. Smooth and highly enjoyable.

Draught and later bottle. Pours clear brown with an average, rocky and fizzy off-white head, somewhat lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, straw, coffee), light hops (herbs), average yeast (leather, meat) with notes of dates. Light bodied, gritty texture, lively carbonation, and a bitter finish. Average duration, light sweetness, acidity, and bitterness.
