JoeM500 (1877), Chicago (little italy), Illinois, USA Nov 15, 2004 Updated: Jun 16, 2008 FOBAB’04: Grapefruit heart red. Funky horseblanket nose, strong and sharp. Extreme sourness at first sip, exploding tartness and fruity flavors, including Cherries, cranberry and green apple. Some vinegar notes and acidic, nearly toxic tones that made it almost exciting on the tongue. Souring, facepuckering at the finish, it left a wondeful sour, woody, and tangy taste on my lips. Aftertaste is even complex and tart. Amazing, best of FOBAB and one of the best beers I’ve tried all year.
Papsoe (11076), Frederiksberg, Denmark Dec 3, 2008 Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of KimJohansen. Pours a hazy amber golden with a tiny off-white head. Piquant sweet and sour aroma with a distinct woodiness. Medium body, tart, fruity sour berry notes with some wood and salt. Lightly tart finish. 221108 CanIHave4Beers (245), Des Moines, Iowa, USA Dec 3, 2008 Pours very cloudy brown with a pretty tan head. The head disappears after a minute. Aroma is a little funky with some floral notes along with some cherries. Flavor is very good, a little bit of cherry flavor prevails through a thin roastedness and a beautiful sour tart flavor. This is slightly sweet but the sour certainly overwhelms this.
Tasting this was probably one of the biggest turning points in my love of beer.
Nephilium (448), Ohio, USA Nov 29, 2008 Wonderful green apple and sour cherry aroma starts this beer off. It pours a bright red, with a dusting of off-white head. Very tart flavor, green apple, sour cherries, and a touch of funk. If you like sour beers... this is one to try. ajm (459), Los Angeles, California, USA Nov 29, 2008 Tap at the Hop Leaf. Stunning dark color. Aroma of yeast, oak, citrus. Additional flavors that come through are moss and faint hints of vanilla. Reminiscent of Rodenbach Grand Cru. yespr (7788), Copenhagen O, Denmark Nov 28, 2008 75 cL bottle, courtesy of KimJohansen. Pours hazy deep brown with a diminished white head. Dense acetone yet smooth milky aroma. Dry acetone and dark malty flavoured with a light acidic touch. Dry and acidic finish.
