Commercial Description:
La Folie Wood-Aged Biere, is our original wood-conditioned beer, resting in French Oak barrels between one and three years before being hand bottled, numbered and corked for your enjoyment. Brewmaster, Peter Bouckaert, came to us from Rodenbach – home of the fabled sour red. Our La Folie emulates the spontaneous fermentation beers of Peter’s beloved Flanders with sour apple notes, a dry effervescence, and earthy undertones.

Welcome to Atlanta! Holy shit, this beer was at Mac’s liquor store on West Peachtree; last one too! Nice dark color. Dark brown with a slight ruby hue. The head fades away quickly. Sharp sour ale, without the fruity sour aroma. Very acute sour aroma. Wood is not a very big factor in this one at all, but I can slightly smell it. Mild cherry aroma, as others have said. Very sharp sour flavor that dies out rather quickly. Doesn’t have that nuanced fruity, yeast, sour flavors as other sours do. Wood is really not a big factor at all. Sour going down, but again short-lived. Decent sour beer, but not the best.

This is puckery. Made three other people wince. Once you get used to that initial punch though this calms down and is really good. The fruit really grows on you and the sour dies down (a bit)

Red-tinged brown, pretty well clear w/ a short-lived head of off-white bubbles. Nose is tart and fruity w/ lots of complex spice nose--absolutely the best quality this beer has. Taste is tart but conservatively so for something that says "seriously sour" on the label. The overall effect is quite like some of the tarter pure fruit juices, cranberry or cherry, only w/ added depth and complexity from some tannic overtones. My only gripe is mouthfeel which I felt lacked the necessary effervescence to make this a truly lively experience. Overall, a wonderfully complex beer though.

Large taste at the ORF tasting. Holy shit this is like sucking down 10 sour apple warheads at the same time. I took the first sip of this and was pretty sure my eyes started to water a bit. Huge sour, vinegar, and apple tastes. If you like sour, you’ll love this. It took me a second to figure out if it was just insanely sour, but there’s a lot more to it than that. I think this was the first beer that made my mouth water profusely craving more. Awesome in-your-face sour

Big sample at the ORF pre-release tasting. From a 22oz bomber with Lips of Faith in huge font. Woah buddy. This is the closest thing to drink straight up malt vinegar. Pours a cloudy brown with little head formation. Aroma is intense apple cider vinegar and malt vinegar. Taste is ultra sour, vinegary, salty, sour green apples. It makes your mouth water instantly and you beg for more. It is completely insane and really fun to drink- a ridiculous version of Duchess and other Flanders reds. Really a treat to savor.

Pours dark rusty brown with an ephemeral brown head. Almost fizzy carbonation. The aroma is mostly raspberry with hints of some spice I can’t place. The flavor is definitely sour, little or no funk, but lots of berry fruitiness. Oak flavor is apparent as is a bit of astringency, which actually improves the balance. Medium body with a nice puckeringly sour finish. Highly drinkable and worth the hefty price.

Bottle. The "Lips of Faith" version of this beer. Reddish brown color, with little head. Smells alot like wine. With it’s grape, raisin flavor, tastes like wine too! Actually one of the better sour ales I have had.

Deep chestnut colour. Aroma is fruity and very nutty. The flavour is very oaky and nutty to start and then transforms into a very sour fruity flavour. The finish is very dry with notes of plum. A very unique beer.

Dark Brown with plum edges. Vinous aroma, Golden Raisin, and a flutter of vinegar and plum. Tart fruitiness, sour apple, plum. Puckering yet sweet. Very nice, earthy flemish.
