Commercial Description:
La Folie Wood-Aged Biere, is our original wood-conditioned beer, resting in French Oak barrels between one and three years before being hand bottled, numbered and corked for your enjoyment. Brewmaster, Peter Bouckaert, came to us from Rodenbach – home of the fabled sour red. Our La Folie emulates the spontaneous fermentation beers of Peter’s beloved Flanders with sour apple notes, a dry effervescence, and earthy undertones.

Bomber from Binny’s River Grove. Pours dark ruby brown with tan head. Aroma is tart cherries and wood. Flavor is sour cherries, wood, and some dark fruit. Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation. This is sour but not over powering. This is pretty damn solid but not quite on the level of supplication in my opinion.

Bottle. The "Lips of Faith" version of this beer. Reddish brown color, with little head. Smells alot like wine. With it’s grape, raisin flavor, tastes like wine too! Actually one of the better sour ales I have had.

Deep chestnut colour. Aroma is fruity and very nutty. The flavour is very oaky and nutty to start and then transforms into a very sour fruity flavour. The finish is very dry with notes of plum. A very unique beer.

Dark Brown with plum edges. Vinous aroma, Golden Raisin, and a flutter of vinegar and plum. Tart fruitiness, sour apple, plum. Puckering yet sweet. Very nice, earthy flemish.

Lips of Faith bomber... poured into a snifter. Pours a deep red / light brown color with a small off white head which quickly disappears... leaving tiny bubbles and a clear lacing. really nice carbonation throughout... big sour aromas burst out of the bottle. the nose is full of tart cherries, rustic barnyard notes and some lingering oak. wonderfully sour - the perfect level of sourness throughout. as soon as the beer hits the tongue the tart apple notes come forward... some more oak throughout the mouth as well as other sweet fruit notes... big tart lip puckering dry finish. La Folie is an excellent Sour Ale... would love to smell some more funk, but overall this is delicious. So glad they have started sending this to GA!

Deep auburn body was topped with a thin and fleeting head. The smell was very sour and oaky, with notes of vanilla, cherry, and smoke. The taste was sour from the first sip, with cidery, green apple flavor dominating all. In fact had I been subjected to a blind taste, I might have been fooled into thinking I actually was drinking fermented cider. A woody dryness followed the sourness imparting some vanilla finish. The alcohol was a non-factor in the taste. The body was medium thick and nondescript, but the lightness added to the refreshing and quenching appeal. A well made beer, that I can now thankfully get locally.

Pours a brown hazy amber color with a soft tan head that dissappates almost immediately. Smells mostly of some sour cherries and a touch of sweet fruits. There seems to a bit of a barn yard quality as well. Some rich caramel coming through too. mmmmmm...sour!! The sourness is felt right from the very beginning of the sip leading to some of the rich fruits.

Dark garnet pour with a minimal white head that dissipates rather quickly. Aroma is caramel, grape, cherry, golden raisin, apple cider, acetic acid, and a good deal of sweet-balanced funk. Flavor is a tart, slightly vinegary sweet funk-tastic quaff. Sweet black cherry, raspberry, caramel, toffee, oak, and apples. Palate is smooth, thoroughly effervescent, dry and acidic. Quite the quaff.

Plum colored pour with minimal head. Aroma holds lots of vinous notes, raisin, plum, cider, vinegar, and a touch of brown sugar and caramel. Flavor is excellent- there’s a beautiful balance of sour and sweet. Dark fruit, raspberry, and cherry are presented nicely, but that bitter vinegar quality is such a welcome contrast. Palate has that sticky sweetness, but it’s not cloying. Really an impressive venture into the world of Flemish brown, and I’m really enjoying my first beer from New Belgium.
