Commercial Description:
This is New Belgium Brewing's interpretation of a traditional Belgian Sour Brown. This unique beer has been peacefully aging in oaken barrels for several years. When you uncork La Folie, it is best to let it breathe before drinking. This will not only improve the bouquet, but also increase the beer's temperature, providing a more complex taste and body.

[’08 Bottle, thanks a lot STLWill!] Pours hazy amber-brown with a tiny beige head. Aroma is very fruit forward with a lot of cherry. The taste is lightly tart but then it blends beautifully with the cherry with only a hint of bitterness in the finish. Good mouthfeel and very smooth. A well crafted beer where the different aspects of it have been melded together perfectly.

Bottle: (Thanks BlackForestCO!) Pours a cloudy burgundy with a khaki head. The aroma is earthy and very acetic. Strong vinegar, very mild cocoa notes, raspberry tartness, oak and some bretty funk of leather. Silky body feel, with a very strong acetic character in the flavor- assertive and sharp with sour cherry skin and plenty of funk. Has notes of leather and lemony acidity, and soft oak. when it warms just a touch of dark malt peek through giving it just the slightest nuance of cocoa. A nice sour!

2008 vintage- pours a muddy deep rust colour with a vigorous initial head with excellent lacing. Nose- sweet cherries, wood, green apples and tart citrus. Taste- extremely tart and mouth puckering. Cherry taste doesn’t overpower- well blended earthy malts, horseblanket, minerals, lemon rinds. Finish is very woody and dry. Drinkability is very good with medium to high carbonation.

Had it on bottle at Cheecky Monk at Denver. A nice and good tasting sour beer. A good and very complex beer. Colorado has a lot of good breweries
